Members speakthrutruth Posted October 28, 2005 Members Posted October 28, 2005 I know some of you guys here are not into the ERB instruments or into going below the low B,but this bassist(I've met him a few times and he seems to be very down to earth)has a 4 string bass tuned Low C# F# B E and it sounds pretty interesting,I have the CD and he not doing any solo's but he is grooving like crazy on a instument that he seems to be the only kat playing. I just wanted to bring this guy to the attention of those who may not be familiar with him or happen to be into Bass that goes extra low. jauqoiii-x.com Speak TT(aka Carlos)

Members ARES Posted October 28, 2005 Members Posted October 28, 2005 yeah i'm interested in hearing this dude, but i can't imagine how practical such low frequences are unless you have specific speakers to handle them.
Members bassplayer7770 Posted October 28, 2005 Members Posted October 28, 2005 Here's a pic of him with a Surine Homage.

Thats the Bass (model)that he brought to Scott Surine(Scott can verify that the Surine J bass was Jauqo's idea.they made the Subcontra version as well as a standerd model)and Scott decided to call it the Homage model to honor Leo Fender. the Bass thats he's holding is the first Subcontra bass that Jauqo had made(the tuning on that bass is Low C# F# B E)he also has a fretted and fretless Adler subcontra bass as well as a Conklin subcontra bass.

FWIW he plays through a 4x10 or a pair of them - if the bass is set up properly no special rig is really called for, although IMO having a sub that lets you hear the fundamental (or at least close to it) is an awesome experience, and definitely my preference. Jauqo is a great guy, and he produced a CD using the subcontra 4 strictly. It was a great recording concept where he did a session that lasted only a day or two. He recorded the whole thing linearly, just as you hear it on the disc with no overdubs. It gets tighter and tighter as the disc plays through and there is some amazing work to be heard on it. Well worth owning IMO.
