Hi....

I am seeking info about the SVT 8x10 cabinets...since i am in the market to get one.

I am familair with the 8x10 cabs from the 70's with that blue/green grill cloth.... I had many bass players who played those original 8x10 cabs ....Those were warm, fat and punchy..

Now ampeg still sells the 8x10 cab with the black grill cloth...can get one new or used...

The question is if there is a difference.....????

Does the older cabinet sound better????

I am sure the cabinet is the same wood construction, but the speakers may not be the same 10"....

Has anyone tried or compared the older and newer cabs???

I know with guitar that a cab is not just a cab..I have old Marshall cabs from the late 60's with original green-back speakers..and none of the newer Marshall cabs can come close to the warmth and sound of the older cabs....

Thanks

Chris

165lb for the new ones. Someone can maybe weigh an old one and let us know.

Ampeg has used Eminence as their OEM driver supplier from Day 1. It's likely the speakers are the same or very similar spec. Keep in mind that speakers don't improve with age, so a 'bargain' used cab can sometimes turn into an expensive recone project.

They've always weighed the same, give or take a few pounds simply because of the nature of wood, but the design is unchanged. The old ones had a tilt-back design & grab bar just like the newer era ones, so they've never been too hard to move.
