Members Billy-B Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 I think probably not. We're doing a B-day party tomorrow for beer (although it is a keg of Heinie--I know how to word a rider!), food and tips. It is for a good friend, I couldn't charge her... Hey, it's only rock and roll! Billy-B
Members sunburstbasser Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 Show band tomorrow-Water or maybe cocoa while sitting for a few hours watching people throw a funny looking ball around. Sunday-playing bass for a few gospel tunes with the choir. At a church. Maybe water? I think I'm getting paid less.

However, you will be making points with The Big Guy--maybe that counts for more;) Billy-B

Members Thunderbroom Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 Ya got me beat! I'm playing with two bands tomorrow night on the same bill. First Band: $100 split 6 ways Second Band: $200 split 7 ways My biggest payday yet!!
Members Melanie Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 I've never been paid for a gig.
Members T-40 Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 I think I would probably have to pay the bar to lat me play.
Members no-logic Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 Halloween party at a local club - $600 split 4 ways.
Members Perfessor Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 Not playing out this weekend at all. Sometimes we get $50 each sometimes $75 and sometimes even $150. I'm not in it for the money. My biggest haul was $350 at a wedding.
Members T. Alan Smith Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 I've played benefits(free, obviously) several times. I've gotten $25 for opening lotsa times($100 split 4 ways). I've gotten screwed a few times getting only $75 when I should have brought home over $100, but that's the nature of the business. My goal in every cover band has been to bring home at least $100. In a 4-piece band, that means about $600 vs. door. That covers all members plus P.A & light rental, plus $50 for the soundman. Times have changed tho, and it's tough to get that kind of cash unless your at the top. For me, after doing covers for over a decade, it's just not worth it...not when I have so much "creative energy."
Members bassplayinguy Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 My band just prety much walked into a decent pay day for next weekend Originally we were schedule to play the Thursday night. Well, we were out with a bunch of friends a couple thursdays ago and the bar owner approached me and told me that the band he had schduled for Nov 4 and 5 had broken up and he needed a band for the saturday night and he wanted us to play it. So we took it. Well, i was there again on thursday to see a friends band and he saw me there and told me that his Friday band just dropped out on him and if we want the Friday we can have it too So im pretty happy with this Thursday - $200 + Open Bar Friday - $400 + open bar Saturday - $400 + open bar + 89x radio sponsored night with free giveaways hehe this should be fun
Members gspointer Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 My gig payouts range from free drinks up to a whopping 80 bucks, actually the drinks have always been free, (that can add up). The only time I've made decent money is in the studio, that pays very well and by the hour. It has been several years, but I think I got 20/hr. for rehearsal and 35-40/hr. for recording.

Funny how to can do all the promo work you want, not get a thing, then score big time by being in the right place, right time:thu: It's a good thing we all love to play, as it seems no matter where you live, we all work for the love of music and not the (paltry) $$ we wind up with Billy-B
Members Zeromus-X Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 The cover band I'm playing with has a show tonight but I can't make it -- taking my dad out for his birthday, and had too short of notice to push it forward or back any. If I played it, I'd be making $150, though. We've got three shows in the next two weeks that'll pull in $125 - $150 per person, though, so it's all good. Cover band paychecks {censored}ing rule.

Dude, I was wondering about that. Can't you cut down to a 4 piece? We just went from 5 to 4, and even one less guy makes a big difference (when your not getting much to begin with). As an added bonus, or sound really cleaned up, too! Billy-B
Members Cortfan Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 Tonight, I am getting $100, or $400 split 4 ways. If Collective Soul hadn't cancelled out on us, I would have played for free. Off tomorrow. We should have a packed house. Its the grand opening for The Big Foot Lodge, and 94.1 "The Buzz" Official Big Ass Halloween Party. Not sure how an alternative station will jive with some old classic rockers.

Everyone in both of my bands are gainfully employed and don't look at the band as a money-making venture. Generally, we pool whatever money we do make so to pay band expenses. I have no desire to pare down either of my bands.

I had a little difficulty logging onto your rock band website, tho... Billy-B

Members Billy-B Posted October 30, 2005 Author Members Posted October 30, 2005 Well, I just blew my own thread. The gig went so well last nite the par-tay honor-ee slipped me a buck-and-a-half at the end of the nite. Very unexpected, as I had told the hosts (her husband/kids, who actually managed to keep this a surprise) we'd do it for free. Well, for (good) beer, anyway (kegged Heinie is whole lot better than the bottled stuff, for sure). Then, when I least expected it, what T-Broom said about not doing it for the $$ hit me like a ton of bricks. I found her husband and gave him back the fifty. Maybe I shoulda given it all back, but I thought we at least deserved a little something... Billy-B
