That thing looks evil. I'm not sure if I mean that in a good way or not.

Danny Lohner (NIN etc) owns a P-Bass of some sort which has a P pickup and what looks like some form of dual coil Jazz/MM with exposed pole pieces. It sounds phenomenally HUGE. He lent it to Paz from aperfectcircle, and then Jeordie went on to use it.

I am considering a P next, and it will be modded with an MM style pickup.

It's a Fender P-bass Deluxe. P pick-up and Dual Jazz Active Preamp.

That baby would be uber-sweet with a clear or black '51P pickguard!

Tell us how it sounds, because I may just want one. Unless I go buy a Schecter Model-T :)

Re: Danny Lohner's bass. Good-o, I wonder what it would cost over here in Oz?

Edit: I just realised that I am planning another MM pickup in the position yours is in my bass. Given the MM's coils can be split or humbucking, how close is it to a P sound?

This bass sounds like a P bass should, just with many more options.

The PU is a Kent Armstrong with a 3 way switch wired HB/SC/Series passive. In Humbucking it roars. Overdrives my MM HD130. Very thick tone and with the tone knob rolled off, dubb like. Single coil setting has mucho punch and growl, with tone wide open. Series setting also very musical. I'm very impressed with the pickup. I've also owned Bartolini's and Seymour Duncan aftermarket pickups. The Kent Armstrong is every bit as good.

Both my guitarist and drummer have complimented me on its tone on my last 2 gigs.

This is the first bass I've owned made from ash. I really like it.

This was an abandoned project given to me by a gentleman I purchased a speaker cab from. The Body is Warmoth and I think the neck is mighty mite?? The body was already routed for the MM when I got it. I bought all the rest of the parts from various sellers on eBay. Tuners are Gibson Schallers. Bridge is an aftermarket, very similiar to Spector. I have considered putting a 51 style pickguard on it, but it would have to be custom made. Maybe down the road sometime, right now I'm just having too much fun playing it. :)

Wow!

That bass looks fantastic! Very clean looking. I like the idea of the 51 pickgaurd on it, but at the same time, I think it would mess up the clean, simple look of the bass. Not to mention the beautiful grain on the ash.

Thanks.

I like them allot.

They're running through Carvin's "Active/Passive Electronics".

I wanted to install an Alembic AXY dual Humbucker system like their Spoiler, but I couldn't swing the $700.00 to do it.

I saw the Kent Armstrongs in a local stores distributer catalog and had them ordered for me.

There's plenty of tonal variety there, that's for sure.

I would recomend them to anyone wanting a good MM replacement.
