Members M-1 Fan Posted November 8, 2005 Members Posted November 8, 2005 How long does it take to become accustomed to this tuning? I'm interested in trying it, buy can't afford the learning curve. Maybe it's easier than I think.
Members LO_RYDER Posted November 8, 2005 Members Posted November 8, 2005 I only use that tuning on my 5 and 6 string basses. I still need that G!
Members Gruven Posted November 8, 2005 Members Posted November 8, 2005 Get a fiver. You'll be happy you did.

Members willsellout Posted November 8, 2005 Members Posted November 8, 2005 It's hit or miss as to whether some basses can handle the BEAD tuning well. I like 5 strings. Dan

Members JacieFB Posted November 8, 2005 Members Posted November 8, 2005 I recently picked up an 8-string bass. I've got an interesting way of tuning it...From the top down, I go D, then A, then E, then B...kinda follows what you guys are talking about. Then, the next string, I just barely put it on there and leave it a loose as I can...it makes an interesting whoosh sound for effects. I call that the L-string for loose. Next is an A. Then I leave the next string off due to the thickness of the other strings and spacing issues. So N-string for no string. Then I put another A on there at the very bottom...so bottom to top: A-N-A-L-B-E-A-D Very innovative sound.

Every once in a while I've been known to {censored} up. If you stick with the same gauge strings and slap on a fat B string, you'll get the feel of it. Now, I pretty much know by gauge what note the string is supposed to be.
