Members Jazz Ad Posted November 14, 2005 Members Posted November 14, 2005 These yellow Tubeworks were great little amps.Awesome tone, very versatile (hybrid preamp), powerful and simple to operate. Perfect for a first good amp.At this price, I'd jump on it. Our local Genz Benz crew should be able to tell you a little about them. Oh yeah, I believe it can work at 225 W under 2 ohms, with an additional cab.
Members burdizzos Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 I'm sure the Tube works amp is great, but for $270 you can get an Ashdown Mag 300H shipped with the purchase of an Avatar cab. Right now, there's an Avatar SB112 in the scratch and dent section because the handles aren't perfectly centered for $228 shipped. So, for just under $500, you could have a fantastic, expandable rig. No one is trying to rain on your parade, we all love getting new gear. We are just trying to help you avoid the mistakes we made along wht way. I've owned the following: Peavey Minx 110Nemesis 2x10 comboAlumabass 2x15Peavey Mark VIII headAvatar B210Avatar B212Homebuilt 2x12 + 2x5Sunn 1200s headEden Wt-330 headHomebuilt ultralight 1x12 + 1x5 I am currently using the Eden and the 1x12. How much money and trouble do you think I could have saved by just saving up and doing it right once.
Members DerekDRP Posted November 15, 2005 Author Members Posted November 15, 2005 @Burdizzos Thanks I do not want to lug around heavy gear this little amp the tubeworks is great and easy to lug around. ( he showed me how easy it was) and I do take advice a lot from you guys. @Jazz Add I know it sounded sweet i didnt know at the time but the bass wass down and the mids where set to zero, but I loved the sound more then the yorky. Damian said i could'nt turn it up all the way even if i wanted too, Becuase the amp was more then what the sub could take. @ThunderBroom How come you would reconmend against them?
Members Jazz Ad Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 Oh, yeah, great. Buy a rig twice the size you will ever need, for twice the price, that will hardly sound any better (I'd take a Tubework head over a MAG any day). Who said something about avoiding mistakes again ? If this combo is in good shape, it will be perfect for Derek and will last him a long time.

Btw this model is allowed to hook up to a pa or something like that.
Members illidian Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 That's a great deal. For $200-$250, you won't find anything much better unless it's a steal. 160 watts will be loud enough for a monitor, depending on the situation. It'll also serve as a solid home practice amp, or for quiter practices and gigs.

He said bro I allways taken care of you right? and I said yeah. he dont worrie about it. ill hold the amp till then.
Members agedhorse Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 There were a couple of models around that size, let me know what the model is and I can get you some info.
Members burdizzos Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 It's probably a 3175. At $200, it is a good deal on a 3175. It is a great combo and it will serve you well, provided that it is in good shape and the speaker isn't damaged. 160 watts is the 2 ohm rating, with the stock speaker(8 ohms) is puts out 100 watts, which is plenty for practicing and jamming with most folks. If you need more, you can add an 4 or 8 ohm extension speaker. The Avatar/Ashdown, is hardly more than he will need and it is well worth the extra cash in my opinion.
