Members modandrew Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 Hello to everyone. I wanted to ask if any of you owned a Vox T-60 Bass combo (not the expensive stack version). If so, is this bass amp loud enough for a gig situation eg pubs and small venue's.I have read the reviews on harmony central however none of them really state this, so any comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Members sunburstbasser Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 Supposedly they carry their wattage well but I'd feel a little underpowered with just 60 watts of solid state power on all but the smallest gigs.
Members modandrew Posted November 15, 2005 Author Members Posted November 15, 2005 I know what you mean mate. Its a shame because aesthetically theyre spot on. So do you think i should be looking at around 100 watt solid state then?
Members PrestiaRules Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 some guys here have recommended the Ampeg B-100R as gigable in smaller club situations...it has a cool look as well: as for 60watts.. I gigged a few years ago (or I guess 5 or so now...) with a Fender Bassman 60 ..tilted it back as a monitor and lined it out...worked fine but I don't know if that is a route you want to go EDIT: of course it depends what you band situation is etc. If you are playing against a full tube stack guitar monster than you will need a PILE of sound...if you are playing with guys who keep it at a lower level then 100W should be okay in most small applications....I have found 200W to be a good point but many will tell you 300W so I guess I am not really helping and will just stop typing....
Members Deville Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 60 watts is insufficient for most things. It'd be a great coffee house amp/practice amp, but that's about it. 200 watts is fine for bars and small clubs.
Members modandrew Posted November 16, 2005 Author Members Posted November 16, 2005 Thanks for your replies. I would like to have gone down the route of using a smaller amp eg the vox and lining it out, however we are not always guaranteed a p.a system yet. The two guitar amps in the band are a vox ac 30 and a marshall valvestate half stack. Another possibility I was looking at was getting a selmer treble and bass 50 valve head and using that. Does anyone have any opinions of these as bass amps? You can pick them fairly cheap here in England.
Members Deville Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 You really need more power. A few hundred watts is necessary if you want to play bass in a band.

Members sunburstbasser Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 Your band sounds like a Beatles tribute band in rig! Vox amps, and looking at Selmer amps, etc. How much money do you have to spend, anyway?
Members modandrew Posted November 16, 2005 Author Members Posted November 16, 2005 Haha. Belive it or not im actually from Liverpool!!!! Ive just bought a Burns in a vintage redburst which looks amazing, and was just thinking about a vintage sort of sound to go with it. But as you can probablys tell ive never bought a bass amp before - ive just relied on a DI straight to the speakers so far. As for price, the things ive been looking at so far have been around
Members sunburstbasser Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 I got the feeling you were from England! Yeah, you've definately got a Beatles-esque setup in mind. What about Ashdown? The Electric Blue combo is 180 watts, and can be DI'ed if you need more volume. Ashdown do a fairly decent vintage Vox tone, too. English company too! I'm pretty sure you can find one of the combos with a little looking in your price, maybe used?
Members modandrew Posted November 16, 2005 Author Members Posted November 16, 2005 Sounds good, Ill have an investigate and let you know how I get on.Thanks for the help.
Members Tim in WV Posted November 16, 2005 Members Posted November 16, 2005 See my sig. The BA-115HP does 220 watts. It's a excellent amp. When you here all the tones you can get out of it you will get wood.
Members Cortfan Posted November 17, 2005 Members Posted November 17, 2005 The T-60 will work fine for gigs, if you can mic it thru a decent P.A. system. Otherwise they are good for practice, and small coffee shops only. Use an SM-57 to mic the speaker.
