I remember when we had a kerosene radio.

:(

Honestly, I do remember making an AM radio from some household parts and one tube.

And CNN just did an article on how many kids today are more into the 'dinosaur rock' than Brittney, Kanye and the like. Wonder why?

I remember driving my grandpa's '53 Chevy that had a tube radio in the dash. You would drive 3-4 blocks before the thing warmed up and came on. I remember listen to KKLS AM out of Oklahom City and WSTP AM from the Twin Cities and WLS from Chicago to get MUSIC. Music on AM radio, who would have thunk it???

Gee, who woulda thunk that kids these days are savvy enough to see through the BS industry product that is being played on the radio these days. Nickleback, Alter Bridge, Slipknot, McTallica, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Lil John, X-tina, J-lo......the list looks endless. Vapid, isipid and weak musak that the industry wants to spoon feed to a sleeping mass in between re-runs of "Pimp ny Ride" and "The Real World" on MTV.

And the kids arent buyng it anymore!!! They are too switched on to the more underground music scenes to even have respect for corporate rock, let alone think about buying into it.

I play in a lot of hardcore and death metal bands. We used to play to 50-60 person audiences and feel elated when that many people showed up. The local hardcore and metal shows these days have audiences in the 500-1000 person range, and thats just in my hometown that has a 20000 population.

All these guys and girls who come to our shows say the same thing. The modern rock being made today is of such a low quality that the majority of the tennagers in high schools are going to underground bands via the internet. They are sick of paying $20 for a {censored} album and $100 to see a {censored} show.

Naw, it's just the "retro" fad that's been going on these last few years. Most of those kids don't have a genuine interest in those bands, they just like the image that goes along with it.

Another thing I've seen going around is a resurgence of thrash/metal to combat the emo/hardcore/whatever you call it thing that's been going on. Most of the kids (on both sides) I see buying into that are the kids who were shopping at Abercrombie and listening to 50 Cent last year. It's silly.

Yeah. Granted, it's in the most posh and well-run school in the country with the highest academic ratings, but it's a start.

Strange, considering rock started out as a movement led by the 'lower' people of society... born on the streets, if you will.

I was born into the wrong generation, I wish i could switch on the radio and here bands like that.

{censored} on the radio today is why i buy CD's, rip 'em into MP3's and listen to 'em instead of the stuff out today.

The college stations still do this stuff here in Cleveland. I remember, though, a local commmercial station that used to advertise during the week for the Sunday night album play. They would say " we're going to play both sides of such and such uninterupted don't forget to set your tapes".
