As some of you may know, I had the Schecter Stiletto Custom 5 for a few weeks. I liked it except for the pickups, and since I still had two days  in the thirty day return period at GC I thought I would go up there and see if anything else they had really blew me away for around the same price range. I tried every sub $1000 bass in the store, and the only thing that really appealed to me in my price range was an OLP MM3, but it still wasn't as good as the Schecter.

I also tried out a few more Schecters, due to mine having some fret buzz in the lower frets, to see if one of them would play better. The other two Stiletto Custom 5's they had were about the same, but the Stiletto ELITE 5 (the neck through version) was better. So I paid the $50 difference and took it home.

It's very similar to the Custom 5, it's just that it's neck through instead of bolt on. The electronics are identical, and the other differences are cosmetic. Quilted maple top instead of flamed. Glossy finish instead of satin. A kind of honey colored finish instead of clear. No inlays on the board save a diamond at the 12th. And the hardware is polished gold instead of the satin kind.

It sounded pretty much identical, I A/Bed it back and forth with my Custom 5 to be sure. ( And for those that care about such things, there was no noticable sustain difference between the bolt on and the neck through model, with everything else identical between them. I know this won't put anything to rest, but anyway.)

I only got it because it had better fret work than mine. If there had been another Custom 5 with better frets I would have just traded straight across. But this was the one that played best and had the least fret wear, and it doesn't look too shabby either. ;)

Check her out!
