Members SatansEnemy Posted November 20, 2005 Members Posted November 20, 2005 as the title states what is the difference between speaker cables and instrument cables?
Members Ace Of Bass Posted November 20, 2005 Members Posted November 20, 2005 instrument cables have one wire inside (+) sheilded by a sleeve (-) to prevent interference. They burn up if you put much power into them.speaker cables have 2 identical wires inside (+ and -) and no sheild. They can handle hundreds of watts.

Yeah, it'll fry it eventually.Of course, I've got enough instrument cables lying around that I've certainly used them for speaker cables at very low volumes before just because I don't care if they burn up--but that's hardly ideal, especially when you can buy adapters, or speakon connectors (Just chop off the 1/4 jack and solder a speakon on instead.) Using a speaker cable for an instrument, on the other hand, won't damage anything at all--it'll just sound very muddy and hissy.
