Members willsellout Posted November 28, 2005 Members Posted November 28, 2005 OK..so just tonight I was noodling around at low volume. All of a sudden the horn on the aggie gets fuzzy for a couple minutes. I adjust everything on my bass and twiddle with the knobs on my amp and nothing gets rid of it. Then it goes away and come back every couple minutes or so. An intermittant problem means what? A ground in the bass? or maybe bad soldering in the cab? I don't think it's the amp as GK's really never go bad, but you can't count anything out I guess..advice? It sounded like I had a fuzz pedal on, and it seemed to be coming from the horn only. Any trouble shooting I can do? Dan

Members Apendecto Posted November 28, 2005 Members Posted November 28, 2005 When mine would screw up like this it would be the cord, but I'm sure you already looked at this. Sorry.Yo.
Members timmerz Posted November 28, 2005 Members Posted November 28, 2005 Be careful, wso.....sounds like the cross-over in the cab may have shat itself, and is throwing too low of a freq to the horn, that would cause the horn to distort and fuzz up.....

Well I took a look at the chord and wiggled it with no noise. I will go and take a closer look at it. They are brand new chords though...I may have gotton a lemon..lemme check again. As far as the crossover, if it was the crossover, would it be intermittant like it is?
Members willsellout Posted November 28, 2005 Author Members Posted November 28, 2005 Well, I just opened up the cab: everything looks solidtook a look at the soldering in the cables, looks solidNow I guess I could check the bass. Any advice on what to look for? Dan
Members willsellout Posted November 28, 2005 Author Members Posted November 28, 2005 OK...so I opened up the G&L and played with no problems, even moved some wires to see if I could get some noise...nothing. It happenned again once I put the cover back on..so I took it off again and it kept on going...so I am guessing it's not the bass. So when it finally didn't stop I turned it off, then on and it was still there. Then I fiddled with the low mid knob on the GK and it went away. I fiddled some more with no noise. I am not pissed that I have a problem, it's that I can't narrow it down,. The chord seems solid, the cab seems solid and the bass seems solid..The only thing that doesn't is the GK as I do have some scratchy pots when I turn a couple of the knobs. Also when it happenned, I turned down the horn and the dostortion went over into the 12's. Any idea's what this means?

Members Perfessor Posted November 28, 2005 Members Posted November 28, 2005 Hasn't happened in years past? How long have you had it? I had some popping from static electricity because of winter dryness that came around every couple months. Just shutting it off and turning it back on did the trick. I work with a lot of fancy variable frequency controllers and such and real hot weather and dry winter weather make them do funny things.
