Members smegolas Posted November 30, 2005 Members Posted November 30, 2005 OK Im thinking of getting a cheap bass for home recording (Im a guitar player). Thinking of getting ESP LTD B-50 with the following:
Members MrJoshua Posted November 30, 2005 Members Posted November 30, 2005 I'm afraid I haven't played or heard either of those basses, so I can't help there. But... Active pickups - this means the pickups themselves require an external power source (generally one or two 9V batteries) to work. These generally have a hotter signal than a passive bass. Active EQ - the pickups may be (and often are) passive, but the signal from the pups is routed through an active (powered) circuit containing a bass and treble boost/cut (and sometimes a mid) before leaving the bass. This gives you greater control over your sound at the bass, without having to tweak knobs on your amp. The signal is also generally hotter than a passive bass.
