Members Coda Posted December 1, 2005 Members Posted December 1, 2005 Is it possible to buy a pickup cover online? I think its called a weatherplate? Ive been able to find one for a J Bass, but I wasnt sure if it was the samething or not. Thanks in advance.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted December 1, 2005 Members Posted December 1, 2005 Musiciansfriend sells em. You can find them on ebay too. They're around $7-10
Members Thumper Posted December 1, 2005 Members Posted December 1, 2005 Try Allparts http://www.allparts.com/categories.php?cat_id=429&cat_name=METAL%20BRIDGE%20&%20PICKUP%20COVERS
Members Coda Posted December 1, 2005 Author Members Posted December 1, 2005 Are they the same on both the Jazz and P basses?
Members Melville Posted December 2, 2005 Members Posted December 2, 2005 I don't think P and J pickup/bridge covers are the same. I could be wrong on that though.

Members T. Alan Smith Posted December 2, 2005 Members Posted December 2, 2005 Don't look the same at all to me.
Members sunburstbasser Posted December 2, 2005 Members Posted December 2, 2005 The pickups are different. But I think you could use the ashtray over the neck pickup interchangeably.
Members illidian Posted December 2, 2005 Members Posted December 2, 2005 The P cover is fatter, and I believes come out more as well (furthest point from the body is further out). The J pickup is not as fat, and is less contoured as well I believe. You could use a P cover for a J, but the J cover may not be large enough for a P.
Members T. Alan Smith Posted December 2, 2005 Members Posted December 2, 2005 The contours are not only different, but the holes are different, the pickup routes are different & the Jazz has a chrome plate under it's knobs. They are totally different.

I believe you're misunderstanding. If I'm right, he's talking about those metal (chrome) vintage-looking pickup covers. There's one over the bridge, and a second over the P pickup in the picture that he posted. They were used many years ago, and come stock on some basses. Essex has a few basses with them (Jazz basses), as well.

Your completely right. But your answering the wrong question.
Members rllefebv Posted December 3, 2005 Members Posted December 3, 2005 The bridge covers, (ashtrays), are not the same... The J one is typically bigger and extends further towards the neck to cover the bridge and bridge pickup, whie the P ashtray pretty much just covers the bridge. -robert
