The sound quality is incredible and some of the songs are mixed differently (plus, there are a couple of extra tracks). Emre
Members seraphim7s Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 If you like it, it's worth getting hold of the Airbag EP and the various B-sides from the singles released off it. I was mental for that album when I first heard it (I was about 16 or 17) and I listened to it again recently after a gap of at least a year or two. It still packs an emotional whallop, and the arrangements are fantastic.
Members sunburstbasser Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Love that album. Finding vinyl might be troublesome but its uber cool. I've got a vinyl copy of Hail To The Thief that has some differences and is just flat out cool in its own right.
Members bassguy Posted December 5, 2005 Author Members Posted December 5, 2005 im picking up kid A next week
Members Benjamin Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 I loved Kid A and Amnesiac. Hail to the thief was great too, probably the right combination of real songs and bleeps and squeals.
Members Tag Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Can't go wrong with any of their albums...except Pablo Honey. But I love all the other stuff. I go back and forth as to whether Kid A or OK-C is the best. Anyone else feel like #8 (Electioneering) on Ok Computer doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album? I still really dig the song, but I always thought it somewhat broke up the cohesiveness of the album as a whole. Interestingly, I mentioned that to a musician buddy once, and he said he thought the exact same thing...

Members zenfascist Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 If anyone has trouble finding something on vinyl, look here. If it exists on vinyl, you'll probably be able to find it there. Most of my music is on vinyl (new stuff too), and that's where most of it comes from. You might want to check out Kid A too, I like that one most of all.

I can't listen to all of it, only about a song or two at a time and only recently have I gotten into it really. My order: 1. HTTT 2. OK-C 3. Bends 4. Amnesiac 5. Kid A Don't have Pablo Honey, don't really want it. Though I'm eagerly awaiting the new album.

Kid A is my favorite Radiohead, but there's no denying the awesomeness that is OK Computer.
Members sunburstbasser Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 They are working on a new album, from what I can figure out on their site (not the best source of information). I wouldn't expect it before the middle of 2006, though.
Members FARGreg Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 when did hail to the theif come out? I know it was a couple of years ago, at least.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a new radiohead album too much...I wonder what they're up to these days. HTTT seemed to me sort of like they were trying to mix a bit of the Bends, OK C, and Kid A/Amnesiac all in one. Didn't seem to progress in a new direction as much as all the albums before it, but I still liked it. I just hope they don't make that same album again.

Members LanEvo Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 It's funny for me to think of someone (like bassguy) buying these records and listening to them for the first time now. For me, Radiohead was always very impressive...but one reason was the context. When OK Computer came out, it was really something. Totally different from what other bands were doing at the time and totally unexpected. Ditto for Kid A and Amnesiac. They took sounds and inspiration from guys like Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and integrated that into rock. I remember at the time Kid A came out, I was listening to stuff by Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, DJ Shadow and that type of thing because rock was so stale and I was bored out of my mind with it. Then Kid A comes out and blends the best elements of these electronic acts with rock. It got me excited about rock again. When you listen to these records today, they're still very good...but you don't get the same sense of awe as you would when they first came out. Hail to the Thief didn't resonate so much for me as the rest. There were too many other bands doing the same thing and it just didn't have the edge of the previous 2-3 albums. Musically, it doesn't stand up as well as OK Computer and Kid A as far as I'm concerned. Emre
Members Tlaloc Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 I think Hail to the Thief was an excellent album. It probably just doesnt impress too many people because Radiohead already did Kid A and Amnesiac and were really different because of that. And they decided to keep that kind of sound. I guess you just cant expect a band to revolutionize the face of music each time they put out an album, you know what I mean? Probably not. I cant phrase things eloquently enough. Goodnight.
Members pbass_groovin Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Radiohead is proof great bands don't have to be in the Limelight (Rush too)

Kid A/Amnesiac and especially OK Computer had amazing songs that all stood on their own individually...but added up to something really special collectively. For me, there are a couple of interesting songs on HTTT and a lot of what I would consider filler. That's kind of what turned me off to HTTT...a lot of it sounds like background music to me. Not very memorable. Emre

They sound great (especially on vinyl). I'm a Hi-Fi weenie and I can't stand the over-compressed, overly loud, "in your face" sound of almost all modern rock albums. Only Radiohead, Beck, and a small handful of artists seems to care about that anymore. Even guys who used to put out great sounding albums (like Rush, U2, Lenny Kravitz, etc.) have been putting out albums that sound lousy lately. Emre
