Members BigPigPeaches Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 And by this, I mean notes that were horribly wrong but allowed to stay on the track. My best example: "Maggie Mae" by Rod Stewart. I believe this was Ron Wood on bass. There are a few moments where you're not sure if he really knows the song, but he plays it off really well. And then you get to the line "I suppose I could collect my books..." Anybody else? And lug MP3's don't count. Those are intentional, and, I believe, in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Members FreestyleIntruder Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Avenged Sevenfold - Lips of Deceit (the bass run that comes in about 1:50 is just wrong on so many levels) Led Zeppelin - Good Times, Bad Times (after the guitar solo JPJ carries on playing the riff one too many times into the next Chorus, this might be intentional but to me it sounds wrong) I think it was badboybass (what happened to that guy) who spotted one at the start of an Earth Wind and Fire song but I can't remember which one
Members JacieFB Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Subtle tuning clams by Sting in The Police days: It's not exactly a clam, but the bass in "Every Breath You Take" is not in tune...it's about a half of a half-step flat. Also, the D-string on the bass in "Walking on the Moon" is also about half of a half-step flat. It's hard to notice just listening, but try to play along with an in-tune bass and it sounds bad. WOTM is still one of my favorites, though.

Much like taking a dump in the tank of the toilet rather than the bowl (a move I like to call "The Upper-Decker"), it's hard to imagine your MP3's being accidental.

Sometimes it's better to just let the Suck flow through you. If you try to force the Suck, sometimes it blows.
Members brake Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 I've noticed a few of Stings lines slightly out of tune. In the outro to 'Fire', Noel Redding changed sections for one bar, caught himself, and went back into the chorus.
Members gunslinger Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 BAR NONE!!!! Worst Bass Tone Award goes to..... D.D. Verni of Overkill. NO low end, Tons of treble and very little mids.....ARRGGHHH!!! Makes some of their albums almost as unlistenable as St. Anger (i.e. Snare drum)
Members jackcheez Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Maybe not one of the worst ever but amusing...Jerry Scheff on Along Comes Mary by The Association (1966).
Members NeonVomit Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Worst bass tone has to be this band called Burst who were opening for Opeth last week. The 'bassist' had a Peavey setup and a Fender Aerodyne bass, and I thought I saw a SansAmp so no excuses gear-wise. He cranked up the overdrive, loads of scratchy highs and high mids, absolutely no low end, and played power chords with a pick most of the time. I just heard a constant scraping scratching sound. It's fair to say that his playing and tone ruined the band who might've actually been good.
Members BigPigPeaches Posted December 5, 2005 Author Members Posted December 5, 2005 Now now...we're not talking about tone, just flubs. If you want to start a "Whose tone is worse than Fieldy's" thread, go ahead.
Members s4001 Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 The Song Remains the Same. John stays on the verse when the rest of the band goes into prechorus.

It's at the instrumental intro to "September"....the little slap/pop he repeats, about the 5th one is all {censored}ed-up, about like I'd do with all of it........
Members s4001 Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 The first break in Thank You for Lettin' Me be Mice Elf you can hear someone snorting a line. ... probably wasn't a mistake...
