Members Thunderbroom Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 The lead singer in my country band has been involved with a project called Dark Side Acappella. They set out to record the complete Dark Side of the Moon acappella. The CD was released just a few days ago. I listened to the clips on their site. I'm going to have to order it.

Members Bluesman0511 Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 I don't know, man... I listened to the clips and, while I can appreciate the musicianship that goes into a project like this... I can't help but think it will always be second-rate due to the ubiquitous, near-perfection of the original. Every note and every lyric can't avoid comparison to Floyd's original. I think Pink Floyd in the current incarnation would have almost the same problem.

Agreed. I don't think they set out to "out do" Pink Floyd. The studio that produced this is a place that specializes in acappella and spoken-word works. I'm sure they just saw it as a challenge to do and went for it.

The quality of the recording was obvious, even listening from work through my laptop with my cheapo headphones. I'll have to give it another listen and try to distance myself as much as possible from the "near-perfection of the original". I think at times I have too much tendency toward over-seriousness. Pink Floyd has been one of my favorite bands for three decades, but it is still music and shouldn't be raised to the level of immutable truth or something. ( You know, I think that's the first time I've ever quoted my own post... )

You hit the nail right on the head there, amigo Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands ever as well. These two tribute thingies offered to you in this thread are pretty good but are just for laughs for all I care. And don't us bass players need to LAUGH from time to time?
