Members Mind Riot Posted December 7, 2005 Members Posted December 7, 2005 Hi all. I am considering picking up a G&L L-2500 Tribute bass, but I had a couple of questions about it first. I hope some of you bass gurus can help me out here. 1) How would you describe the basic tone of the bass? I've heard it has lots of growl, but I'm wondering if it can somewhat approximate the punch and rumble of a Stingray type sound. I have an OLP MM3 and I dig its sound, and when I A/Bed it with a real Stingray they were similar. 2) What is the string spacing like? It looks from pics I've seen like a narrow five string spacing, but I can't seem to find any specs or measurements on the G&L website or anywhere else. I need a narrow spaced fiver. 3) What is the neck like? I've played a bunch of different basses, from slim to chunky, and my OLP has a pretty round, full neck which I like. This won't be a deal breaker either way, but I would just like to know. I play a variety of stuff, but I do really need an aggressive, punchy sound ala Stingray (even though I can't afford one). I would appreciate any and all information on this, I may be hitting the Buy It Now on one this very afternoon.
Members willsellout Posted December 7, 2005 Members Posted December 7, 2005 I don't have a tribute but a USA. I can tell you that my bass can nail a Stingray tone. The neck is gorgeous on it, although I hear the necks on the tribute's aren';t as nice. MY 5 string has the same spacing as a stingray I believe. It feels the same anyway. Great basses! Dan

Members lug Posted December 9, 2005 Members Posted December 9, 2005 The tribute L2500 string spacing? Why it's the same as the US made L2500 string spacing.

It's waaaayyyy different! The Tribute is Korean and therefore measured in millimeters. thank you for reading bbl's bull{censored} post of the day

Members tim_1002 Posted December 10, 2005 Members Posted December 10, 2005 I tried the tribute today. 1> The tone came out to be a bit too trebly to me. It could be because I had no idea what the controls did on that bass. Didn't hear any stingray tones in my random flicking of switches and twisting of knobs though... output was pretty loud for a passive bass. 2> I found the string spacing to be quite similar to a MM3. I felt comfortable slapping and popping on it. 3>The neck is chunky, quite similar to the MM3 as well; just a bit thicker if i'm not wrong. I might go back and test it again once I find out what the knobs do on the bass. It's either the Tribute or a Warwick Streamer Std 5 that i'm saving up for.
Members Mind Riot Posted December 10, 2005 Author Members Posted December 10, 2005 Thanks guys! I was very comfortable on the OLP, so if it's similar that's good. I'm starting to like chunky necks too.
