I've never played bass before, but I just bought a Gibson G-3 on eBay and am getting a Rickenbacker 4003 in January and an Ernie Ball Stingray sometime in late 2006/early 2007.

Which of the above amps will work best for each of the above basses.

I'll be playing very diverse styles of music...punk, oldies, 80's pop, classic rock, jazz .....pretty much anything but country.

Any combination of these basses and amps can be used for any style.

I don't quite get where you're trying to go.

Why buying 3 basses in a row if you don't play ?

In answer to your question, I've run out of guitars to collect. Time to switch to basses.

Not by a long shot.

Of the choices, I'd probably go Ampeg.

If you want a really awesome bass amp, get a Trace Elliot tube head. Or something with some tubes in it, anyway (Genz Benz, or Ashdown ABM series for instance).

As an ex owner of a B series Ampeg, I would recommend staying away from it (it broke after a week). Ampegs = SVT IMHO.

I am a very happy SWR210C owner now. A Rick's sharp trebly sound will probably be enhanced by SWR.

I'm along the lines of sunburstbasser and syciprider:

* I'd save some of that bass money for an SVT. The Ric would sound wonderful through it.

* The Music Man will sound great through an SVT or a Genz, Ashdown, Eden thing. In other words, I Ray will sound great through anything.

Note- It isn't that I think a Ric won't sound great through anything but .....it's just that a Ric through an SVT tickles my Old-School funny bone. The only time I play with a pick is with a Ric through a tube amp.

Check out the Ampeg BA500 = 2 10" with horn. 350 watts

SWR Super RedHead = 2 10" with horn. 350 watts.

Eden DC210 = 2 10" with horn. 350 watts.

Fender Pro 400 = 2 10" with horn. 350 watts.

These all sound great and are expandable by 100 - 150 watts with an extension cab. I have on order the SWR Super RedHead. I plan to expand it with a SWR Son Of Bertha 15" cab. My second choice was the Ampeg BA500.

These are all in the $1000 - $1500 range.:thu:
