Members takeout Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 The boominess is due to proximity to the floor. You have a right angle between the floor and your speaker baffle, which creates a standing wave. If you put your cab on a chair, you eliminate this.
Members greenshag Posted December 13, 2005 Author Members Posted December 13, 2005 yup, I know, I generally use two milk crates, but this looks so much better than using those...

Members pbass_groovin Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 How'd you manage to get that for free? I was thinking about making my own.
Members greenshag Posted December 13, 2005 Author Members Posted December 13, 2005 Originally posted by pbass_groovin How'd you manage to get that for free?I was thinking about making my own. my sales manager asked if I wanted it since I play bass, so I said yes....damn I love free stuff, it makes it easier to deal with all the {censored} I put up with on a daily basis...
Members james on bass Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 Is it what it appears to be? A carpeted board that lifts the cab up off the floor a few inches? Does it really help that much with live sound?

Members s4001 Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I was in a rehearsal studio auditioning for a band. I brought in my combo and started setting up. One of the owners of the studio grabbed my setup, while I was using it. Started setting it on that thing "dude, you've got to try this, it's the greatest thing ever, I'll cut you a sweet deal, I make them, they'll revolutionize bass, they're the best thing ever, you'll never believe you lived without it..." etc etc. Mind you, this is while I'm auditioning and the band is paying by the hour. Nevermind that I have a small combo and standing waves are hardly an issue... no thanks.

Here's a bit more info. http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolation_gramma/sound_isolation_gramma.asp I personally don't regret buying mine.
Members 82Daion Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I use bricks. They work, and look really "cool." Plus, they were free!
Members Benjamin Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I have removable castors on my 4x10 and remove the back two so that the cab sits at about a 10-15 degree angle backwards. Serves two purposes, kills some boom, and gives my ears more direct exposure. I don't have a big problem with boom anyway, except in the recording bungalow where sympathetic vibrations create a sub-harmonic rumble sometimes.
Members no-logic Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 Some of the places we play have wood stages and the bass just resounds through the hollow stage floor. I use 2 of these and it totally isolates my cab to the point where the sound is clear and true instead of all the vibration through the stage. They work great.
