Members B-Bottom Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 waits for impending comments......
Members pbass_groovin Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 he beats his strings with plastic spoons?

Members Dragoon Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 This thread should be made a Sticky, or better yet, be put in the FAQ section. Seems like the topic comes up bi-weekly, or at least weekly
Members zachoff Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 Make the EQ smile & play so hard that the strings hit the pickup poles.

Members SimsburyKid Posted December 21, 2005 Author Members Posted December 21, 2005 People say that he uses a distortion, but I disagree, that aint no distortion, not the clicking anyway. Ok, Im just gonna go pound on my pickups then. HAHA spoons.
Members lug Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 Honestly? Get a very light guage of strings, set 'em low and bang 'em hard!
Members SimsburyKid Posted December 21, 2005 Author Members Posted December 21, 2005 Yeah I like to use super light gages, they feel nicer on my little girly hands, but lack in the bottom. I think Im going to try the D'Addario custom light gages next.

Members sunburstbasser Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 If there was such a thing as zero midrange, it'd be twice what he uses. Set your mids to lower than they can go, on both bass and amp. Boost bass a little.
Members Adrenochrome Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 I heard he lent his tone to someone about 10 years ago and they forgot to return it. A bloke in the pub told me, so it must be true.
Members pbass_groovin Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 He has a knob on his Ibanez called.... "I think I'm really cool but I'm really really not"
Members illidian Posted December 21, 2005 Members Posted December 21, 2005 It's really simple to get. Lows - MaxedLow Mids - All the way downMids - All the Way downHigh Mids - All the way downTreble - Up to taste (and if you've got a Genz-Benz GBE series amp, L.F. Extend, Mid Scoop, and H.F. Attack all maxed) What you want to do is get rid of all the character and most of the tone. You just want some low rumble with some clickity-clack.
Members whoneedstherapy Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 Here's the lovely quote direct from the ibanez site about his Signature K5 "Original Vari-Mid EQ sweepable midrange allow you to dial in or dial out any kind of bass sound (or as Fieldy says, "Take the midrange and turn that $%#@$ off"). " So that along with the "beat it like the bass monkey" technique approach should have that sound perfectly happening for you
Members SimsburyKid Posted December 22, 2005 Author Members Posted December 22, 2005 Yeah that'd be sweet if I could have that on a 4 string. Not a 5 kinda guy.

Members SatansEnemy Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 if im not mistaken i believe i saw an interview with him in a mag, and he also tapes small pieces of brass to his fingers to help with the clank... i for one do not enjoy his sound...but if thats what you want, i hope you can find it!
Members Thumper Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 Get a cheap manual typewriter. Randomly bash the bejeezus out of the keys. There ya go...
Members baracuda2004 Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 put magnets on your thumb, then slap as fast as you can, but only play muted or x notes, the clicking is really the magnetic pulling off of the string.... I'M COMPLETELY JOKING don't really try this
