but. sing-tard has got to have a new guitar. no doubt about it. problem is, sing-tard is unemployed. so i'm thinking i'll get an essex guitar and loan it to him to play. as long as i'm with the band, he's got it to use.

anybody played the sx skinny-stringers? are they comparable, quality wise, to the sx basses?

or, alternatively, are there other ideas for guitars at the $100 or less price range???

please and thanks.

haven't heard anything about SX guitars, but if you search the guitar forum, there were some favorable threads about the Agile series of guitars from rondo-- the ones that look like LP copies. I've thought of getting one, myself.

No experience with SX guitars, but I bought a brand new Yamaha EG-303 for $99.00 at Music-Go-Round locally. Check their website.

They do a lot of closeout/used gear as well, you might find something better!

Tell him to get a job and buy his own if he wants to play a guitar that badly. If you buy a guitar for him it will end up bitting you in the ass.

As far as your question I can't help you out. i just wanted to give you a bit of advice

I agree with B-Bottom, everyone but me in my last band was an unemployed slacker leeches riding on me. It got tired pretty damned quickly.

On the other hand, yes, the SX and Agile guitars are on about the same point on the value to cost curve as the basses. I have several and haven't been disappointed.

How about buying it, and doing a lend / lease rent to own thing? Can he afford $10 a week? I'd be tempted to do something like that, if he falls behind by 2 weeks or more, take it back until he's caught up again. That's only if he's a decent person. If he's really a "sing-tard", and can't act maturely, then no deal. Once a leech sets its teeth in, the only way to get it out is to yank it out forcibly (painful for both) or kill it.

+1 for personal responsibility. A guitar is easily taken home to "practice with" and then never returned. Band breaks up, you are out a geetar. If he's a singtard, tell him he needs to suffer for his art and get a second job :)

Hell, he'd better get a first job first! Anyone that thinks a band is a real job, but can't afford his own gear to play in it, isn't a professional musician, so the band isn't a "job".

The basses are typically better than the guitars but they're OK for the money. I have a SX LP Special copy which isn't bad. It has a nice chunky neck which I like. I'd wait for the Agile AL-2000s to go on sale again. They were blowing out CSB models for $100.00 before Christmas. Also a used USA-made Peavey Predator can be had for $100.00.

I picked up this MIM Strat for $90.00 on eBay.
