Members seraphim7s Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 I know they both used P-bass', but what else? I love their gritty, snarling tone. Distorted, but not so they sound like the lower strings of a guitar - they still sound bassy (which is my main problem with Entwistle - for all his skill, he sounded a little too much like a second guitarist to my way of thinking)
Members speddling Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 Wetton used P bass and Hiwatt.... nuthin' much else needed. Geezer used a bunch of different things... but mainly tube guitar or dual purpose heads. Both cranked them into overdrive.
Members Thumper Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 I think Wetton used WEM amps for a while, too. P-bass and Hiwatt...mmm..
Members SpaceGhost Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 Somewhere in 'The Great Deceiver' box set booklet it explains Wetton, at one point, had a "Cerwin Vega" (sp?) cab that was amazingly loud. In fact, they sometimes didn't run it through the PA and Wetton still could blast through the other guys live.
Members der oxenrig Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 I find Entwistle & Wetton's tones to be quite similar, with Wetton's being a hair more nasty. All three have great sounds, though.
Members Estebum Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 If you wanna get that Geezer "woob woob woob" sound, you have to attack the notes hard and up on the neck around the 18th fret or so, like he does in all their old vids:thu:
