Members James Miller Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 I am starting to slowly learn about tone. I am in a cover band and doing OK but I am having trouble with my notes sounding loose kinda farty sounding. Even my guitar player has said to me that they sound farty to him. I have tried Compression and it is not helping. I have been told by a sound man to try a limiter but I do not know much about them. I am basically try to make my notes tighter sounding, not so loose and fluby. Can you help. I would appreciate it.

Members zenfascist Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 List your gear. We can't give you a solution without knowing the problem first. There could also be bad tone coming out of your fingers.

Members mistermike Posted January 8, 2006 Members Posted January 8, 2006 There is so much that will make a fart sound. Anything from a bad speaker, bad string, amp issue, drop tuning, tone settings either on the bass or on the amp or just having eaten beans for dinner. More information would be a good place to start.
Members fretless Posted January 8, 2006 Members Posted January 8, 2006 the trick is to get the well executed fart sound .
Members Bluescout Posted January 8, 2006 Members Posted January 8, 2006 Lift a leg every time you get a farty tone. They'll think it was you. Or blame it on the dog. A lot of times the farties are low notes that take a lot more power to make and they overload the amp or speakers. Try rolling back your lows a bit. Another thing I've learned is to let the amp do the work. Try turning up and playing lighter on the strings.
