Members SoundwaveLove Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 What a bass. I nominate the lakland 44-01 as the official best bass you can buy for under $1000 who's with me?
Members ivanthetrble Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 Preaching to the choir here. I own 4 Laklands!
Members Mofopotomus Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 Well for what it's worth I own a 55-02...and so far I've never played anything I have liked more. Seriously, I wish Lakland would be in charge of necks for all basses. Oh how I love the neck.
Members dave64o Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 I hestitate to call anything the best because different needs might make one better than other for a given situation. But, no sense picking those kinds of nits over such a nice instrument, right? I have a 55-02 and have to agree that the Skylines are simply fantastic. Have you see the story of a Skyline on Lakland's website? It seems like the Skylines get even more attention during contsruction than the US models do, and for a fraction of what the US models cost. Members sunburstbasser Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 The best under a grand was a Reverend. The 44-01 is very nice though.
Members Crescent Seven Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 Good luck getting one NOW. Most places are on back order until March, at which point they will only get a few units, especially the Skylines. If my local dealer had even one in stock last month, I would have bought it. As it stands, I can't even put my hands on one to try it until March. I'm probably going to buy a Tribute instead... C7

Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 I've played the Skylines on a couple of occasions. Never did anything for me. Give me a G&L. Dustin

Members flatcat Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 I really like my 55-01. Especially since Dan Lakin put an NTMB preamp in it. But I tried a 4-string fretless US-made one, maybe a 44-94 or something. *THAT* was a nice bass. ....didn't cost less than $1000 though. Used it was almost twice that.
Members no-logic Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 I have a 44-01 and I really like it. It was my #1 before the Ric came along. But the Lakland goes to every gig with me.

C7 I found a local guy that has 3 in store, plus a few other models I'm thinking of selling my kingston to fund it.

Members jeffery.addison Posted January 13, 2006 Members Posted January 13, 2006 Playing a Lakland Bass ruined my idea of "the Perfect Bass" Since I played a 55-94 USA Model two months ago, I have sold 3 Spectors and 1 Carvin Bass. I now own two 55-94's and a Darryl Jones 5 String. I have another DJ5 and a 4-94 on order coming in March.
