Members Thunderbroom Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 I just got a new cellphone/pda that is Bluetooth-enabled. I don't really know much about the technology. I understand that it's some sort of wireless protocol and that many folks get wireless headsets for use with their phones. I'm not interested in that at this point but was wondering how I could use the technology...specifically I'm wondering what hardware I would need to wirelessly synch my phone to my computer. I currently use a USB cable. Any other folks use BT? If so, how?
Members jetmech727 Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 Sorry can't offer you any info....but I think that alot of thos people with those funky blue glowing earphones....look like the BORG.
Members JOnly Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 Bluetoth is primarily for synching with other devices, like another phone or PDA. Since you have both in one device there is really no need, unless you go with that headset. bluetooth runs on 2.4 ghz also, so add interfering with wireless networks and portable phones to the list of features, lol. I haven't yet seen a bluetooth adapter for a PC, but I'm sure that they are available. hope that helps.
Members One Bad Monkey Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 Macs have bluetooth capabilities built in the machines. I have no idea why (I think there are bluetooth-enabled keyboards and mice), but its included.
Members leisui487g Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 My Bluetooth phone is able to sync with my address book and caldendar on my mac. Also I should be able to transfer files such as mp3s and photos all day long between them, but Verizon has that feature disabled on most of their phones. I think you would need a bluetooth card for your PC.
Members bassguy Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 im just working on getting the software upgrade on my phone to enable bluetooth, ill let you know...lol
Members Bluescout Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 Bluetooth is a communication type. There is a "syncing" that has to be done between devices so they will work together. There are lots of things that can be done with it like earphones, some cars have bluetooth for you cell phone, and you can sync to a computer that way as well. Some phones allow a bluetooth enabled PC to connect to the internet through them. Some macs have it built in. If you don't have it, you can buy a little USB dongle for $20 that will plug into your PC and do the job.
Members Bassius Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 i have a razor that has bluetooth, i use it in my dodge magnum...when i get in the car and start it my phone links to the console/mirror. if someone calls while i'm in the car, my car acts as the handsfree system. i hear the caller through the stereo speakers, the cd player will pause or the radio will mute...it's very cool. i have also used it to xfer pics from one cam phone to mine and viceversa
Members pbass_groovin Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 I heard that Bluetooth technology probably won't last long
