Members losergeek Posted January 17, 2006 Members Posted January 17, 2006 Seems like it would be more practical/inexpensive because of the fewer tubes (6 instead of 12). But would I run into significant volume or headroom issues? Thanks,Alex
Members takeout Posted January 17, 2006 Members Posted January 17, 2006 "Inferior" is probabyl the wrong word to use. They will have less headroom than a "+" due to the 6L6s, but it may be enough for your purposes. If not, you can get 6550s put in there and get ~300W out of them like an SVT. If you see a good deal on one, grab it. If you don't like it, turn it around on the 'Bay for a profit.
Members willsellout Posted January 17, 2006 Members Posted January 17, 2006 I believe the 400 has fewer EQ sliders as well. Still a solid ampDan
Members phunkyhick Posted January 17, 2006 Members Posted January 17, 2006 They are like twin brothers. Same, but slightly different. The 400+ is a little more hi-fi than the 400, the 400 is a little more ampeg-ish. I own both, and both kick ass. The 400 is slightly boomier than the 400+, which is deeper. Any Ampeg would be significantly boomier, especially if it were a Classic.
