Members Bud-Man Posted January 23, 2006 Members Posted January 23, 2006 81 points- wow- Wasn't there a post earlier this week by Bassgeek, aka Funkee1(I think), giving props to Kobe? Talk about a crystal ball
Members Ole Man Blues Posted January 23, 2006 Members Posted January 23, 2006 Who does he play Bass for?
Members Bass8987 Posted January 23, 2006 Members Posted January 23, 2006 Well he shot the ball 46 times, not including 20 free throws and only had 2 assists...
Members Bud-Man Posted January 23, 2006 Author Members Posted January 23, 2006 Yeah, he shot 46 times- you kinda have to shoot the ball to score 81. He was 28 of 46 overall- 61% from the field. He was 7 of 13 from three point range- 54% Who cares he only had 2 assists? If I was playing with him I'd tell him to shoot the ball, not pass to me if he is that hot. His team was down 14 in the third quarter and he just took over and won the game. I am not really a huge fan of Kobe, but that was an amazing performance. He didn't even look tired late in the 4th quarter- he was still killing them
Members sheepdog Posted January 23, 2006 Members Posted January 23, 2006 His previous 62 pts vs the Mavs didn't impress me. No matter how you spin it, though....THIS is impressive. 12 pts more than MJ's career high (and MJ had overtime to get his 69 pts) I still don't think Kobe is the next MJ, but his performance in that game was damn impressive.
Members King Kashue Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 I dislike Kobe more than most, and I do think that he is a horrible teammate and will never win a Championship without someone else being 'the man'... However, that game was beyond sick...It's up there with Wilt's 100, as a single game effort it is beyond almost any other... His talent is undeniable...his ability to function as a teammate is non existent...
Members Emprov Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 Originally posted by Bass8987 Well he shot the ball 46 times, not including 20 free throws and only had 2 assists... That was my thought exactly. It doesn't take away from the fact that the guy's probably the best shooter in the game today but still...
Members lokidecat Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 He only scores more because he shoots more and is more selfish. Look at a comparison between him and LeBron James: Better shot percentage Better assist average Better rebound average Better steal average Better block average Better 3-point shot percentage Better player. On top of that, LeBron's more fun to watch than Kobe. Kobe has an attitude that ruins the enjoyment of the game for me.
Members embellisher Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 Kobe Bryant! Wow, what a tear he is on. I am not a huge fan, but I think that he has proven over the last month that he is the best offensive player in the game right now, and probably in the top two or three players period. I didn't think that I would ever see anybody score 70 points again, much less 81! Does anybody else think that there is a chance that he will challenge Wilt's record? He looks like that is what he has in mind. But I have to wonder what long term effect this is going to have on the rest of the Lakers. One guy becoming so much of the focus can cause some jealousy and hard feelings. Yeah, he is the best guy on the team, but there are some more quality players on that team.

Lebron also has more consistent teamates to pass it to (assists don't take into account the times when you pass to a teammate and they miss the open shot) and is not always getting double and triple teamed. Kobe also hits more game winning shots. An area that Lebron still needs to work on 5 rebounds is good for a guard. Lebron is good but, to constantly judge one player by anothers stats don't always tell the full story. They both have different roles on their teams.
Members bholder Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 There is no "team" in "Kobe".
Members bleepo Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 My restaurant has a Kobe Meatloaf. Amazing!

Give me Elton Brand and the Clippers any day!

Members bleepo Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 Yup. At least, an North Americican version of. Right cows, wrong part of the world. Kobe meatloaf on top of garlic mashed potatoes, with fresh seasonal veggies, gorgonzola bread pudding, and a chipolte {censored}ake jus.

Members Bud-Man Posted January 25, 2006 Author Members Posted January 25, 2006 I thought about this more today- Kobe scored 1.68 points per minute of the game- 81 points in 48 minutes. In the second half, he scored 55 points in 24 minutes-That is 2.29 points per minute of play- thats more than a basket every minute- it almost seems impossible when you break it down like this I wish I had a tape of the game just to watch how this went down.

You won't have a problem finding it, although you might have to pay. I've read that Google video will show it for $4. There are other sources, too.
Members King Kashue Posted January 25, 2006 Members Posted January 25, 2006 Originally posted by bbl -1Great teammates help their team win. That's what Kobe does. No...Great teammates make their teammates better...They help their team win championships, not games... Half the time Kobe tries to carry the team, and he can't...he's not helping his team win, they'll never make it past the first round of the playoffs, just like Jordan's teams couldn't until he started letting other people play... Here's a good article that goes into what I'm trying to convey...It contrasts Killer instinct (like Kobe) with Winner's Instinct (like LeBron) Bill Simmons also talks about the Lakers' Offense in the middle of this article here on Doc Rivers and the Celts...Funny stuff...

Another Bill Simmons article article that explores that issue... Interesting stat from the 81 point game...2 assists...yep, quite the teammate...

I'd be happier of more players started trying to become the next Magic Johnson rather than the next Jordon. One man shows are great but basketball is a team sport
