Members Jiggo Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 First, i'd like to thank willsellout for directing me to the mesa buster 200 combo on talkbass. I bought the thing (for 650 in mint condition ). A good friend of mine in california bought it in person and now we have to ship it here. Ive heard things about tube amps not enjoying being shipped. Any tips for packing it? Should I just meet him halfway somewhere in texas? Ive never shipped an amp before. Just dont want it to show up with a split cabinet. Those buster bass amps arent exactly easy to find. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Members fretless Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 he should probably take the tubes out , wrap them in bubble wrap and stuff em back in or in a separate box , just pad it real good , thick foam on the corners , so it floats on foam and padding , the shipper , UPS or FEDx has requirements such as 3 inches all around internally so you need to follow those because if they break it and you don't follow their requirements they won't cover it . Insure it to the fullest ofcourse . Should be no problems .
Members misterhinkydink Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 Pack it well (remove tubes, etc) and ship Greyhound. It'll be handled much, much less than any other shipping method and get there faster for the same price, probably two days. I send stuff from NM to CA in the evening and it's there the next morning. They do have a 100 lb limit and you have to go to the depot to ship and pickup.
Members Jiggo Posted January 24, 2006 Author Members Posted January 24, 2006 the amps about 130lbs by itself ;[
Members fretless Posted January 24, 2006 Members Posted January 24, 2006 I think that is freight shipping , will cost a little more .
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted January 24, 2006 CMS Author Posted January 24, 2006 Provided there's room inside, remove the tubes, wrap each one in bubble pack, and place them inside a box, and place the box inside the amp, packing it so it won't move around at all. Then take the amp to a UPS store, and have them pack it for you, and ship it with insurance, and specifiy that the package *must * be signed for in person, so your friend can inspect the package. If it's damaged, UPS will still give you grief, but if they packed it and it's insured you will be compensated.
