Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Were they ever anything else?
Members bigby Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Just sick of hearing those same songs over and over again. For me, looking back at bands from that genre, Id take Led Zepplin or The Who anyday...
Members The Insomniac Posted February 6, 2006 Author Members Posted February 6, 2006 If my band sounded like that I would make everyone stop to check tuning.
Members bholder Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Wait! Are you sure they weren't lip-synching??
Members Thumper Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 I saw the Stones in Louisville, KY in '88. Living Colour opened up for them, ending their set with 'Cult of Personality.' Wow..... I walked out after 30 minutes of the Stones. I don't think I'll ever pay to see them live again---I just don't see the point.
Members jasper383 Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 And where is Daryl Jones? Oh, right here on my milk carton.
Members der oxenrig Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 I thought they just plain sucked. I can't believe my uncle paid $400 a ticket to go see them.

Members Roger in the sky Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 "here's one we could have played at superbowl one...." will these guys die already?
Members 95thfoot Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 I wouldn't call them a garage band- that's unkind. Bar band is more like it. I remember the Sixties. In a lot of ways, the Sixties sucked.

Members Fran da Man Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Well...i'm glad i'm not the only one who doesn't like the Stones.
Members rikshaw Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 i'll never understand how they became so popular.

Members bholder Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 There was a time when they were innovative and good. That was a long, long, time ago, though.

Members s4001 Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 I never got that band. Of that, I'm proud.
Members bnyswonger Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 I love 'em, but that wasn't one of their better appearances. Charlie is da bomb.
Members Crescent Seven Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Probably the worst Stones performance I have ever seen. They need to throw in the damn towel already; I love their old recordings, but man, they are the worst value in concerts in history, and have been for almost 20 years. They took a time slot where they could have played 5 great classic Stones tunes, and played 3 of the easiest, most mundane tunes they have ever written, and they drug them out (no pun intended) until they were unbearable."Hey guys, get out there and play the first verse of every song, followed by the chorus repeated 50 times. Got it? These damn kids only know the refrain from these songs anyways..."Right, mate. Make it easy, yeah."C7
Members Dragoon Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Originally posted by bnyswonger I love 'em, but that wasn't one of their better appearances. Charlie is da bomb. Me too. Safe choice of songs though, outside of 'Rough Justice'. Pretty much agree with C7 thoughThey haven't been vital in some time (since what? Some Girls ?Tattoo You?) but damned if their back catalogues isn't one of the best in rock. Beggars Banquet through Exile cannot be touched.Feel bad for some of you. Oh well, there's always others' material to cover. In all probability the Stones deserve some credit for that I'm sure.

"Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" was a pretty good live album. Doesn't hold a candle to "Live at Leeds," but it's not bad.
Members Dragoon Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 Listen to something of theirs that isn't played on your typical classic rock/hits or oldies station and you might think differently. Do I think their most popular (not necessarily chart hits), enduring, and most played songs are garbage? Absolutely not. Overplayed? Most definitely. If all we're talking about is Stones tunes that are beyond played to death (including all but one played during the halftime show), then we aren't on the same page. Name you one thing they've put out that isn't awful? What kind of challenge is that? I just can't let tossed-off generalizations and opinions-as-fact (not referring to any one person, so you know) slide I guess.
