I absolutely love my original Ampeg SVT. Been singin its praises for years. But I came to the descision that with constant giging, I needed something that could hold up better to getting banged around. I've shelled out enough in repair bills.

I had the opportunity to play through an Eden Roadrunner a few years back and told myself right then that if I ever considered switching, Eden was gonna be the only option. Well... just got my WT800B today.

Its going to pain me to closet the Ampeg though.

Cause the guys in the band are my best friends... and I'd like it to stay that way.

We already bitch at the drummer enough for insisting on a mammoth kit. I don't wanna be part of the problem.

I have a WT800 also, it's the best thing I have played through. I had and SVT3PRO also, loved it but the Eden is more "in your face". That's what the other band members said, "it sounds like the other one (Ampeg) just more of it)"

:thu:

Don't closet the ampeg, switch off between the two.

Yeah, this is the very reason I chose Eden. When I gave the Roadrunner a spin, it had every bit of stomp-ass that the Ampeg had, but it was cleaner sounding... more definition, and with a flat EQ. The guys in the band all got that big-eyed look.

I've dinked around on other stuff - SWR, Trace Elliot, etc - and none of it had the total package. What it had in one area, it lacked in another.

I've got to really start researching some Eden stuff.. I tried one in the studio and was COMPLETELY unimpressed, I -hated- that amp, and it was a WT400 (or 800?) - isnt that their flagship model?

Either way, all of you cats are praising them up and down, and I hated the one that I'd played... I'll have to look into these soon.

My Ampeg SVT410-HLF. It's sounded nothing but amazing with any other head, and we tried running DI right after the head, too. Sounded like a big muddy mess, and we spent quite a while on the EQ.

An Eden sounded like a big muddy mess? It must have needed some repairs... You can hear me recording direct from my WT-400 (playing my Sterling) on my band's website. Click the link in my sig and go to the SOUNDS page. It certainly doesn't sound muddy IMHO. I usually keep the EQ completely flat.

Yup, it was muddy and farting (whenever we drove it hard). I had a go at EQ'ing it first, I put it completely flat with a bit of a bump in the hi-mids and a cut in the lows (my usual EQ shape)... muddy.

The engineer (he's been a recording engineer/live soundman for about a decade) had a go at it next, and it still sounded like {censored}.

You're right, maybe it did need repairs.

I {censored}ing hate Eden heads, but I quite like the cabs......

I use a WT-800 from time to time and I'm never satisfied with it. I can get a passable tone out of it but I'm never quite happy. I don't like the EQ at all. The filters are all too wide to be useful. I find that cutting/boosting even one notch is almost always too much. I really don't like how they handle themselves at their limits either.

In terms of sheer volume, my old SVT stomps the guts out of the WT-800.

I do quite like the SVT through the D410XLT though. Creamy...:D

At least I'm not alone, I was guessing there was something wrong with my hearing...

I'm gonna talk to my teacher to see if I can borrow his Eden WT head (the one we tried recording with).. I'm pretty happy with the amp(s) that I've got now, but if I can get a sound like BP's, well, I might have to start saving my pennies :D

I'm an Eden guy through and through. But I must admit, if I wasn't using an Eden head through my D410XLT, I would put an Ampeg in it's place. Even a B2R sounds great through that cab. For my tone/ears it's not quite Eden great, but Ampeg head/Eden cab would be the first other combination I'd consider if I ever want to revamp my rig.

I suggest that a good chunk of the sound you're hearing there is the Musicman.....;)

I dunno, it's like everything, some people love 'em, some people hate 'em. There's probably not anything wrong with either side's hearing. :D

Guess it all depends on what genre of music you're doin, and who you're workin with.

Me - loud modern rock. My rig needs to throw out enough low end to get under two half stack guitar rigs, and needs enough definition that I can hear what I'm doin that three times a show where I get off the root note.

...And an old SVT didn't do that?

Ah, never mind. I see your reasons. :D

I'm going to carry mine around until I can't do it any more. I haven't had any trouble with mine yet and luckily, if I do, I can fix it myself.

The only Eden I had that I couldn't get along with was a used Metro that I bought. It never sounded good to me it was constantly farting out on me, but I don't think it was typical of Eden stuff, I think that one was just broken.

I had a Eden WT-800 with 2 ampeg 4x10 cabs and I could kill small mammals with that rig. I could nail piano tone with my j-bass.

I traded that Eden head to the Bass player that plays with Greg Koch for his Mesa 400+. We are both VERY pleased with the trade.

Maybe something was wrong with it, maybe it needed new tubes.

There could be several factors contributing to the muddiness - old strings, the bass itself, pickups, cab..

I play an Eden WT800 through an Ampeg PR410HLF with a Warwick corvette and EVERYBODY who has heard it is like "wow."

I have NEVER got any compliments on my tone until I played through an Eden. Not even through my former SVT3PRO, which I thought sounded pretty killer.

Nah, nothing on the bass end of things, strings were new, batteries were new, and the cab sounded great with my amp. It sounded great without the Eden.

Must have been something wrong with the head.
