On FedEx vehicle for delivery

I ordered a Boss ME-50B to have lots of effects at my "fingertips". I don't use effects a lot, but have variety would be great for me. It also seems fairly easy to use, and it's received good reviews (including from Jugghaid).

Anybody here use one? Is the tuner as good as the TU-2 pedal?

I look forward to your reviews!!

Thanks. Somebody else here has the GT-6B too, but I don't need or want the modelling.

I have the GT-6B. I had originally bought the ME-50B and returned it after a few days. I preferred the GT-6's tuner (not only does it have a large display, but all of the footswitch lights are additionally used as "scrolling" or "chaselights" to indicate which way to tune, so you can see it from any distance if you happen to wander about or not have your glasses on), the fact that it has an XLR DI, the effects pedal is steel, not plastic, and that you can set up patches.

This last one's a biggie....essentially the ME-50B is like 5 floor pedals stuck together...you can set the effect with the knobs, then toggle them on and off. The GT-6B adds more effects, but more importantly you can set up dozens of patches with any combination of variations of each effect, and toggle through them or activate any one instantly via midi. No bending down during the show to adjust anything. And the ME-50's compressor has no footswitch at all. So what they tout as a feature was for me a detriment. I didn't want to "just reach down and turn a knob" during a show. But if you know you'll only be using one type of each effect, this isn't an issue.

You can do the same thing with the ME-50B. It has 2 modes....stombox modde and one where you can program presets with the settings you want. and external roland FS will also control the compressor if you want but if you program it into a patch then it will already be on.

Any time bro. Let m know what you think of it once you've had a chance to play with it a bit. The wah on it is suprisingly good. Actually all of the effects, with the notable exception of the synth sounds. They suck. :) But I have yet to hear a good Boss bass synth.

Agreed, the distortion/OD effects are frickin awesome, but I wasn't exactly blown away by the Synth stuff. I might go get an Akai Deep Impact or something if I really need more Synth effects, but for now the ME-50B is holding its own.

That's the only other effect pedal I have other than my ME-50B. Well that and a TU-2 tuner because I still like that tuner.

Oooo. How well do they work together? I expect awesomeness!

I LOVE my ME-50B. It has everything I need and nothing I don't need. Usually I run it in memory mode. The first preset is just a standard clean bass tone with a bit of compression and a touch of EQ. The second preset is a delay/chorus that I use with the volume pedal to create sustaining swells. The third preset is usually EQ'd for fretless bass with a touch of chorus and compression. The tuner works fine, but it's not amazing. The only issue I have with the unit is that sometimes I tend to push on the volume pedal too hard and it switches modes from volume to expression.

It is. I've had the Deep Impact for a year or 2 longer than the ME-50B. I'll never dump this pedal. Nothing else even comes close IMO. They work just fine together. Just put the Deep Impact in front of the ME-50B that way if you change the output level of the boss unit with the volume pedal, then you don't have to change the input level on the Deep Impact.

Yeah, but my point was that you can't toggle patches without an external switching device. Add the cost of that, plus your TU-2 (the GT-6's tuner is easily as good if not better, my guess is it's the same circuit) and you've spent more than the difference between the two pedals. I like having just one box that does everything, and can double as an 'emergency' DI/modeler should I lose the use of my amp or just not want to lug it to a gig.

I dont' want to give the impression of a pissing contest in this discussion. Both are great pedals, I'm just passing along my likes/dislikes.

On the downside for the GT-6B, there's so freakin' much it can do, even though I've had it about a year and a half, and read the manual cover to cover several times, I still don't know all of the functions. I'm not sure it's a fault of the unit or my own slow learnin':D

No piissing contest, they're both great units. Both have different advantages. he deciding factor for me is that I have a great amp and really dont need any of the amp/speaker modeling. I just want the effects. For that purpose, thas unit works exactlyy as I want it to.

Used it for a gig Saturday night... There are lots of good sounds in this unit! I haven't even scratched the surface yet, but I've already found sounds I use. I used the octave up effect for my "solo", and it sounded sweet!;) I'm definitely glad I kept my TU-2, though. It seems to be a much more precise tuner, plus it's easily engaged and muted.
