Members HORSE Posted February 8, 2006 Members Posted February 8, 2006 So I finally got everything fixed up and working on my p-bass. A Seymour Duncan quarter pound pickup, gotoh 201 bridge and D'addario chrome flats. It sounds amazing!! Punchy and full, huge output (louder than my active bass). Damn, I wish I had found this tone years ago! I now am a firm believer in the 'everyone needs a p-bass' idea.
Members bottomfeeder Posted February 8, 2006 Members Posted February 8, 2006 I know I got to get me one!
Members gazman Posted February 8, 2006 Members Posted February 8, 2006 +1. I was once a believe of the 'everyone needs a fender-bass'. So I got my J, As awesome as it is, I still want a P
Members pbass_groovin Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 Cool. I dropped SD Quarter Pounders in my MIA P & through on some flats and it does me good. I don't see a need to switch bridges though
Members januaryscar Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 Welcome the QP on a P club!
Members Darkstorm Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 I'm sure the upgrade bridge also helped the tone some too. Lol. Glad you like the results of ugrade. For P Pup bass, myself the BC Rich Warlock with P neck & bridge pup sets. P sound with the added versatility of neck & bridge pups for blending etc. Also likes the treble voice of P's in bridge positon and is ok with their little darker sound in neck position too. Last single P bass set bass I had was again BC Rich Warlock. From the 80's. With P pup set in midway position between neck & bridge. Did very well, but lacked versatity of 2 pup bass.
Members james on bass Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 I would love it if I could find a 5 string P. Just a P. No bridge pickup. Without going custom.
Members Onkel Bob Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 How about this one:It's bloody expensive though...
Members james on bass Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 Well ya, Celinder, Sadowsky, Valenti - none of them cheap. How 'bout SX - now that'd be cheap and right up my alley.

Members Onkel Bob Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 There's a five string squier p bass. and an MIA fender. Both had bridge pick ups however. Best I could find.

Members Onkel Bob Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 Can't even find a five string P-bass at Sadowsky's website. Seems like you'll just have to save up US$3000 and buy the Celinder...
Members bassplayer7770 Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 A good passive P-Bass is a wonderful thing. Eventually, I'll have one...
Members Thumper Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 Mmm...P-bass...Everyone should have one at one point in their life. Congrats on getting your tone.
Members pbass_groovin Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 I love P basses, a good woman, or any power tool. If you have one in your hands you get things done.
Members Ole Man Blues Posted February 9, 2006 Members Posted February 9, 2006 It's the "All in one gitter done Bass":D OMB
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted February 9, 2006 CMS Author Posted February 9, 2006 I absolutely adore my P-bass. Regarding a 5'er- good, cheap, or 5 strings; pick any two.

Members Nino Valenti Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 Mike Lull makes a P, also:
Members Onkel Bob Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 Can you find a cheap five string P-bass without bridge pick-up as well? Edit: Those are all really sexy by the way.
