I don't know how good the rest of you are, but I don't think of many of John Paul Jones' lines as beginner. My friend is teaching a neighbors kid to play bass (no previous instrument experience). The best true beginner bass line we could think of was Van Halen's Running with the Devil. It's like quarter notes (and only two of them as I recall)
