Members BigPigPeaches Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 Saw that the Northeast has gotten a bit of bad weather. Hope all of the forumites up there are doing okay and maybe getting a day or two off work. Down here, we had a few horrible days where the temp dropped into the 40's. But we banded together, broke into the winter stores, made fudge and popcorn, played Monopoly, and waited that bad boy out. Temps are expected to be back in the 70's by Wednesday, at which time Texans can go back to their normal routine.
Members Estebum Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 It snowed an inch in the grass in Alabama. Not bad. You folks from up north and the midwest and cold parts of the globe worldwide should really see how people in the deep South US react to the threat of winter weather. It's a real spectacle with the weather departments of the local stations going 24/7 and the maps at the bottom of the screen, the live reports from grocery stores and convenience stores showing the people lined up buying carts full of water bottles and loaves of bread, etc. About 2 weeks ago they were predicting, worst case scenario, up to 2 inches of snow. Nothing happened though.. I heard one of the local newscasters tell the chief meteorologist (who had been working at the station all night long to monitor the situation) "we really dodged the bullet last night" because the temps didn't get below freezing. 2 inches of snow in Wisconsin and you guys would still be wearing flipflops. Of course, yesterday it snowed fuh real and there was almost no warning from the local news:rolleyes:
Members rovito Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 When I loadded my gear last night it was a pleasant 6 degrees and dropping. 40 sounds nice right now.
Members lingua latina Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 The Flatlanders who spend piles of money to ski and spend holidays up here are rightfully frustrated. This has been one of the least snowiest winters in my 45 years. And to add further insult, this eagerly anticpated Nor'easter appears to be giving MA CT and RI fits as we speak- while the states that need it for tourism are not going to get it. There's only so much time left!
Members Auchenorrhyncha Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 North Jersey got 10 inches, give or take some for wind, and it hasent stopped yet.
Members Vinny D Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 Well being here in Rhode Island I can tell you it sucks outside at the moment, we already have somewhere around 8" of snow and are expexting about 12-18" by the time it's over. I just wish my dog didn't have such little legs, everytime he needs to go out I have to go shovel a damn path for him, I was looking forward to just sleepling all day!!

Central got a bit more. I'm a few minutes from Newark airport and I think it was about 15" deep at my place. Shoveled it out before but I need to go back out later to dig out the cars and clean up what's still coming down
Members SpaceGhost Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 I'm in central Jersey as well and the car is packed into our driveway. I've seen a bunch of people driving around... I wonder where they are going?

I don't know why they didn't stock up on supplies yesterday like the rest of the world. I think alot of people just want to get out in their SUVs and show the world how "tough" they are. No thanks, I'd rather stay off the road on days like this.
Members SimsburyKid Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 We are buried over here. It's STILL snowing!

Members fastplant Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 Snow finally stopped just under 2 feet

The snow plower still hasn't come by and it's almost 6:00 PM! What the hell do we pay him for?
Members brake Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 we're getting {censored}in' buried here. this just means i've got lots of time to play bass
Members Estebum Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 2 feet of snow and your electricity is still on? or are you on a laptop? I think in AL they shut off the power when it starts snowing, just to cause panic or give us more of that "roughin' it in the snow storm" feeling.
Members bassnutz Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I'm loving all the snow we just got nailed with. It gave me a chance to go shopping at wal-mart without the normal mob scene. It took me a couple minutes to clean off the truck, slap it in 4 wheel drive, and away I went. Nobody was on the road, and nobody was shopping. Ahhh, easy breezy.
Members mench Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I got sunburnt and very hot at an outdoor gig today around 37 celcius (100-ish in fahrenheit) what I wouldn't do for a cool breeze...
Members LO_RYDER Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 We got slammed! Central Park (NYC) got over 26 "...a new all time record. Where I am in NJ got about 12". Ahhhhh nothing like shoveling snow for 2-3 hours!
Members Fran da Man Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 We got hit pretty good in Delaware too.Dig that avatar LO.

I measured when it was all done, 25". It was nice to be forced to stay in for a day and light a nice fire.
