Members Onkel Bob Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 If I were a guitarist I'd know what gear I'd want, and I'd be content with it for a long, long time. What gear would I want? This: and this: And then I'd be content. As a bass player I don't know what the hell I want... Except that I want to be in a band.
Members Thumper Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 You have great taste in gear The problem is, most guitarists are just like us in the GAS Department.
Members Ace Of Bass Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 This is why bassists should pick out guitarists gear, and guitarists should pick out our gear.It would save both of us a hell of a lot of money--not to mention we probably wouldn't all go deaf at rehearsals.
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 It all seems so simple - one good guitar, one good amp, rock it out. But then you realize that hey, while your Les Paul and Marshall combo sounds great for a lot of things, only a Strat has that position 2 and 4 quack; only a Tele has that real thick twang in the bridge; a good hollowbody is nice and warm. And then the amps might need to change, too, depending on music style. That Marshall might not be as clean as you want. Then, maybe you want something with a bit different midrange voicing to get better crunch. Me, I just want one great bass tone, and about a billion different great guitar tones. My $.02 Dustin
Members Crescent Seven Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 My GAS isn't centered around owning several basses and amps. I'm searching for the Holy {censored}ing Grail, here. C7
Members der oxenrig Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 My guitard has that exact amp. Get's {censored}all loud. Luckily my Sunns do as well.
Members Jazz Ad Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 I'd go with something like this : What kills me is guitar amps. With a little 30-50 W tube amp you can gig pretty much anywhere.
Members LanEvo Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 For me it would be something like this: For that ZZ Top sound. Emre
Members fretless Posted February 12, 2006 Members Posted February 12, 2006 I have a 5 watter and it is crazy loud
Members Bud-Man Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I play guitar too- My guitar gear GAS is far worse than bass. I don't really have GAS for bass gear- it seems much simpler to me- good quality stuff with the right amount of power for the situation and you are there. I have owned about 20 different guitar amps over the last 5 years. In that same time, I have had 2 bass amps. My biggest GAS problem is guitar amps, not so much guitars themselves.

Members 82Daion Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I'd take this: Or this: Probably run through an AC30.
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 Originally posted by LanEvo That "Z" is a S.E.T. amp, right?Emre It's a DR. Z Mini-Z Dustin
Members Ender_rpm Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 Love that G&L, but I'll gig with my rig anywhere, anytime. Just give me a line to the PA and you won't even need a second guitard. Bass I'm still trying to find that magical formula. I never should have sold my HLF..
Members sunburstbasser Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I'm flexible on guitars. Just gimme an AC-30.
Members LanEvo Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 Originally posted by i_wanna_les_paul It's a DR. Z Mini-Z Right. I was asking if the Z was a S.E.T. design. There are a few triode guitar amps on the market these days. All make very low power (inherent in the single-ended design) but really sound terrific from the samples I've heard. I'm not sure, but I think the Mini-Z is also a S.E.T. design. I've been so impressed with S.E.T. amps that I've actually gone over to one for my home audio set-up. I invested in Decware SE34M mono-blocks: Not the cheapest amps in the world, but worth every penny. They sound like magic! Emre
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 Oh. Sorry. I don't pay that close of attention to gear. I just lust over it And I don't even want to know how much your amps cost Dustin
Members Darkstorm Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 As much or more variety in guitars & guitar effects etc etc as there is in bass gear. Plays BC Rich guitars, warlock & mockingbird. Seperate processors for guitar (zooms), same amps for guitar as for bass & synths, Peavey. Its great haveing amps that are great for all 3 instrument types, no need for seperate bass amp, synth amp, & guitar amp. Same amp for all three: pair peavey minx110's run in stereo. Bass and guitar to their own processor then to mixer, synths to mixer, istruments mixed down at mixer then signal to amp pair.
Members xdamagexx Posted February 13, 2006 Members Posted February 13, 2006 I'm not much for guitards. but my friend onehourburn is my guitard and he goes through gear like his underware... lolthe past year he has had 3 new guitars and has changed out his amp and cab.. maybe now he is happy with is Dave Mustang Flying V 8ball sig. and peavey 5150 and 4x12 Vader. m/
Members Onkel Bob Posted February 13, 2006 Author Members Posted February 13, 2006 I guess I knew all along that guitarists have the same kind of GAS that we do, but I still think it's they have it easier in one way. If I wanted an amplifier system based on tubes, that was loud enough for practice and most gigs I would have to pay twice as much as the guitarist that wanted the same only for guitar.
