Members Cartel_Monkey Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 Ok, forgive me if this topic has been discussed before. Im new to this forum and all i want is to get a few things clarified. ok, i have an SX SPB bass guitar. This guitar works great for the amount of playing i do, but i have always noticed the similarities between the SX brand of guitars and certain Fender models. Since i have never played a fender guitar before, my question is: What is the main differences between mine and a Fender P-Bass? thanks in advance
Members justinbass Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 Fenders tend to be overpriced, and SX guitars are great buys.
Members Cartel_Monkey Posted March 22, 2007 Author Members Posted March 22, 2007 are the fender parts interchangable with certain SX models? because mine looks just like a fender P-Bass.
Members s4001 Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 The necks, pickguards and pickups are slightly different dimensions. They will not swap without at least a little altering.
Members justinbass Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 They are close, but not dead on. The neck pocket is a little smaller on the SX's, and they use cheaper pots. To get deeper into the differences, you obviously have a lot of options in colors, woods, pickups, active/passive, ect with Fender that you don't have with SX. Dollar for dollar, the SX is a much better bass, but once you start comparing them to the pricier MIJ (made in Japan) and MIA Fenders, the Fenders are typically a lot nicer(and a $700+ should be better than a $120 one), but the SX basses can compete with Fenders 4x the price.

I think it's the exact opposite as far as colors goes. Fender doesn't currently make one that looks like these:
