Members chunky-b Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I'm relatively new here and I'm pretty sure this has been covered before, but with the search option out, I cannot locate it... I am gassing for a new strap for my J-Bass and spent an hour in Guitar Center and even more online looking several places and there are too many to choose from. I am more into comfort than looks, so what do you guys recomend? My guitar player loves DiMarzio Cliplocks but I can't find any that are padded... Suggestions?

I like their 4" wide all-suede model. No padding, but the suede is soft and flexible, and wide enough to really offer some support without digging in. Also, suede usually stays put wherever you put it. Edit: The MS4's. That's my fav.
Members James Hart Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I just bought an Italia Strap off eBay for $30. 4" wide Crema(white) with tan backing. They go $75 from their website.
Members guitargod0dmw Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I use Franklin straps on all of my basses. They are very comfortable and nice!
Members Bassin' 'Round Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 ... www.EyelandEnterprises.com ...especially the Xtra Clef, although they have lots of very nice straps...

Some of these at Eyeland are really cool... But as my nephew told me, if you wear one of those, you gotta be able to back it up and bring the noise...

Members chris-dax Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 Levy makes good straps built for comfort. ditto - I have 2 levy straps for my main basses....padded, 3 in (I think), cost about $40. It's a very important piece of gear...don't skimp on the price. You'll never wear out a good strap, and you'll appreciate the little extra money you paid every time you play your guitar.
Moderators ThudMaker Posted July 24, 2007 Moderators Posted July 24, 2007 I use Franklin straps on all of my basses. They are very comfortable and nice! I'll second the Franklin straps. I have 2 of those. I have 4 Long Hollow Leather straps. Both brands are wide, form-fitting and comfortable.
Members Noise... Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 Levy's straps for sure. Great, high quality straps that aren't too expensive. I have an alligator skin Levy's for my Jaguar - super comfortable and looks really good.
Members collinwho Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 you know, if you get a strap with a lightning bolt on it, it makes you play faster. This is a scientific fact.
Members Mytola Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 Leather strap + a piece of foam padding cut to fit + duct tape = good strap.
Members Guttermouth Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 the neotech super ax is the most comfortable strap i've ever used.http://www.neotechstraps.com/product/detail/?PRODUCT_ID=11&PRODUCT_SUB_ID=
Members Death Hands Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I have a Yamaha Aircell strap that I picked up for like 25 dollars. It handles my fifteen pound jazz with ease. I wear it like an overshirt.
Members guitargod0dmw Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I saw a Ritter strap (the bass maker...not the case/bags) that had memory foam on it for padding. It's actual Tempur memory foam too. It looked and felt pretty cool in my hands, but I didn't try it out. Didn't see the price either, but it's 65 euros...so whatever that translates to.
Members chunky-b Posted July 24, 2007 Author Members Posted July 24, 2007 you know, if you get a strap with a lightning bolt on it, it makes you play faster. This is a scientific fact. So if I get one with flaming skulls, does that mean I die a painful, warm death?
Members y-o-y Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I use these Fender Neoprene straps. For $30 it provides the comfort and support
Members guitargod0dmw Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 So if I get one with flaming skulls, does that mean I die a painful, warm death? No. It means anyone that looks at you dies a painful, warm death! On fire of course...
Members chris-dax Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 Leather strap + a piece of foam padding cut to fit + duct tape = good strap. Yeah - and you can use one of those plastic closer things off the bread wrapper as a strap lock...

Members chunky-b Posted July 25, 2007 Author Members Posted July 25, 2007 Thanks to everyone for their advice! I ended up at Guitar Center last night and found a Levy's strap that is a padded, stretchy, nylon kind of feeling stuff... It has a little stretch to it which makes my J-Bass seem really light. Noodled with it last night and was very happy with it. Thanks again for eveyone's advice and opinion...
