Members eoinwalsh
ok i'm getting a bass soon but havent a clue where to start. I have a few main requirements - 1. the bass must be easy to play. easy on the fingers etc. a narrow neck would be nice. 2. it must have good harmonics, especially on the 3rd, 4th and 5th frets. If i cant play Portrait Of Tracy on it, then it wont do! 3. It must be capable of achieving a wide range of tones. basically i want to be able to sound like victor wooten and jaco pastorius. I was thinking about getting the ibanez soundgear gsr 200. its nice but you cant get 3rd fret harmonics with it. i havnt got a lot to be spending either

Members Gaui
Yup, check out a jazz bass. I have heard good things about the new Squier Vintage modified 70s Jazz bass, and it looks killer.
Members Anesthesia
I was thinking about getting the ibanez soundgear gsr 200. its nice but you cant get 3rd fret harmonics with it. If you put fresh, DR strings on that bass you will have more harmonics than you know what to do with (I do on my GSR100 anyway, and it doesn't even have a bridge pup)
Members bassred
Mayhaps the absence of harmonics aren't an issue with the bass.... it is important to make sure your approach is right on.. I'm pretty sure I could get harmonics all over my SX with three year old strings on it.....
