I started playing a 4 string bass when i first decided to begin. about 2 years later it was time to upgrade and a friend of mine was playing a Warwick Corvette-5 and i loved the deep sound of the B string, so i bought a 5 string (not a warwick, mind you)... i can honestly say ill be a 5-string player till the day i die (unless i buy a fender). Some basses have a really floppy, dead sounding B string on them tho, its a real turn off when they sound like crap, but the basses that have nice, tight, crisp B's are finely crafted musical instruments. I like the tighter string spacing too.
