PODxt vs GK800RB: Verdict on Experiment

Well, I A/B'd my GK against GK setting(s) on the PODxt last night at practice. In a nutshell, very little difference. I was amazingly impressed. The real GK just had more "presence" on the stage so I liked it better. The guitard and sound guy said they could not tell a difference out in the sanctuary/gym.

On a sidenote, one of our guitards won't be there next Sunday---so, I had to do some guitar parts. It was nice to kick-on a guitar tone (I used Budda setting and Plexi Jumped setting BTW) and do some distorted guitar parts.

I didn't mention this in the thread yesterday, but the whole point of using the PODxt was to really just use the effects from the PODxt into the real GK (using no amp and no cab settings). The gym has too much bass response, so I'm going to have to use the PODxt into the PA from now on. To use my amp, I have to have the amp plugged into a speaker (to have a load on the amp) that I use as a monitor. That adds an add'l speaker with bass; thus, making it very difficult to get me heard unless they only hear what is bouncing off the walls! That's a bummer, but I only have to carry by PODxt and the FBV Express pedal vs. my amp in its rackcase.

We tried the XT straight into the PA and also thru the FX loop of my GK. Straight into the PA seemed to work the best overall for the sound guy. For some reason, the signal was really hot via the GK so he had to turn the gain down more on the board. Not sure why or if that really made a difference overall in the tone.

No, you don't.

You can run an XLR from your 800RB direct to the board, without anything else but your bass plugged in, and you'd be set.

+1. That is only true of Tube amps, and GK is Solid state.

REALLY? I don't need a load on the amp? Well, if not, then WOO HOO!! I'm used to my old Peavey Alpha head I guess.

:D:D:D

Just one of the perks of a solid state amp.
