Small amp for recording?

Noise...

What do you guys recommend in the line of small recording amps? I'd prefer something with a line out so I can just record directly into a computer.

Is there anything like this in the $100 range that actually has good tone?

With amp means you need a mike.

Better off with a semi-decent DI or bass preamp.

I use the BMax at church as my DI b/c of the features. LOVE IT! :thu:

So there aren't any small bass amps that I could use?

This may be a stupid question, but can a bass amp actually have a DI built in?

I basically want something that I can practice with and use to record. I use a line in for my guitar amp with good results...does that not work the same with a bass amp?

Sure they can and just about every bass amp out there has some sort of DI out, whether it be XLR or 1/4".

However, considering your price range, a $100 is going to go mucho farther towards a decent DI over an amp.

If you are recording onto a computer you have exactly zero need for an amp. If your question is about a practice amp, that's a whole different concept.

I've also successfully used one of the little ART Tube MP preamps. You can push the gain pretty hard if you'd like, or just keep it clean. We have the one with the VU meter on the front. It has a limiter, and a couple switch options on the top of it.

One of the lil line 6 1x10 jobbers should get er done for ya. But they run about $350 ish. Otherwise, small amp for practice, GOOD DI for recording is a good practice to follow.

Gallien Krueger MB150E, but they're not cheap, unless you can find one on Ebay or something, but I second the idea that you need something more like a DI/ or the POD or Radial Tonebone.

I'm just going to use my guitar amp for now and save towards a good amp. The Fender Rumble 100 2x10 combo caught my eye earlier today, so I may go for that in a few months.

I know the guitar amp will work with just the head. It's solid state and has a headphone jack for practicing and recording without a cab. I'll just do that for now and get a real bass amp later on. I'd think it would be better to get a good amp in a few months over getting some cheap POS amp now just because I want one.

How are those $20 Behringer DI boxes? Is there another cheap DI Box that's better?

That's overreaching it a bit. For his budget a DI is probably a better option, but it has nothing to do with recording medium.

He doesn't have a recording setup with mics and preamps and all that. He would not be recording an amplified signal. He would be buying an amp to use the on board DI to record into the computer. In that case, it'd be like buying a car with a cd player so you could listen to cds. :D

Technically, I DO have a recording setup.*

(*Said recording setup is made up of 1x $10 microphone. )

But those requirements are assumed.

Still... I do favor a DI in this case like you do.

Not assumed if you've followed Anti's posts the past several months as I have. ;)

Haha.

Yeah, you guys have helped me out a lot with the bass stuff. Now I finally have the bass ordered, and a good grasp on what amp to get, as well as what to do for recording.

Thanks a lot you guys - I really appreciate all the info and help over the past few months!
