Moderators Kindness Posted August 9, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 9, 2007 If by skinny you mean nut width, the skinniest are typically 1.5" across, which is the typical jazz bass width neck. There aren't many (any?) nuts narrower than that. However, you also are probably looking for a bass with a shallow profile front to back. Fender has two models, the Geddy Lee and the Jaguar, that use the same neck profile that is slightly shallower than the typical jazz neck. Other companies also have different profiles. I believe you will find some very narrow and shallow necks in the Ibanez line. Since my personal preference is on the opposite side of the spectrum as yours, I'm not the right guy to ask for specific models. I'm sure others will come along with more helpful info. Members DevilRaysFan
Vox basses from the 60s or a like-kind reissue (like an Eastwood Vox copy) have always had the skinniest necks to me........
Members bassesofalessergod
Ibanez SDGR (soundgear) without a doubt.
Members ezstep
The skinniest from nut to 24th fret that I have seen is my Alembic Orion. Very thin, very narrow all the way up.
Members fretless
My Atlansia I would say Carvin is darn thin and those old Ibby's of the same era where pretty thin as well .

Members theradvocate
The Ventura mid 70's SG bass has the skinniest neck I have played on - like i posted in another thread - if you can find one buy it. I can't imagine a bass with a neck this skinny being better sounding ... its an absolute breeze to make the switch from guitar ... and it doesn't sound like a a short scale at ALL (ala fender mustang)
Members lug
Jaguar matches the Geddy Lee but skinniest is usually gonna be a Hofner beatle bass knockoff.
Members bnyswonger
My old Mosrite bass had a super narrow neck, similar to vox. I never met a guitarist who couldn't relate to a dano neck.

Members guitargod0dmw
MM Sterling or an Ibanez as suggested. The Sterling is basically a glorified jazz bass neck. It's roughly the same dimensions, but for some reason they just feel a lot better!

The diffence from the jazz is slight but play it for 2 hours and the difference is huge.
Members SB900LE
the Ibanez SB900 has the nicest little neck I've seen on a bass . . . not easy to find, but they're out there: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320143768053&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160142715642&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=
Members JacieFB
More votes for the Ibanez Soundgear, closely followed by the MM Sterling. Fender Jazz is close, but the profile gets much thicker as you head up the neck.
