Members lowndown
Just got a new jazz off the 'bay, but after taking off the strings last night to replace them with new flats I found the previous owner had cut deeper grooves in the nut on the D G spaces, which leaves my standard guage flats sitting practically on the fretboard and buzzing like mad! So, is there any way I can fill in the cuts in the nut or is it worth me simply getting a new nut? Also, is it difficult to change a nut, or should I get a pro to do it as I have little knowledge and equipment?
Members chunky-b
My mind totally went in the gutter when I read this post title. I halfway expected to see pictures of things I didn't want to see...
Members guitargod0dmw
Just get a new nut...they are cheap. Read up on it, it's very simple to do...but you can mess it up pretty easily if you have no clue what to do.
Members wilki29
You can also get a pre-cut nut. They are a little more expensive, but they are worth it.

Members jackcheez
I remember back in the day when I would play anything I could get my hands on... I would use a match. From a matchbook, not a wood match. Tear a piece or two off and use it to shim the nut under the string. Now days I would get a professional to install a new nut. Well worth the $35 or whatever it will cost.
