Members ToeJamFootball Posted August 11, 2007 Members Posted August 11, 2007 Anyone ever played through an MXR Bass Octave, thoughts? Looks like this - Would I be better off spending more and buying an expensive octave?
Members J. Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 I'm interested in this too. There are plenty of reviews around for the EBS and the Boss units, but ones for the MXR are pretty scarce.
Members ToeJamFootball Posted August 12, 2007 Author Members Posted August 12, 2007 They are like AUD$350, whereas the MXR is around AUD$100. Maybe if I could find one cheaper.
Members Jazz Ad Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 The MXR isn't the cleanest, the best tracking or the fastest octave pedal around but it's got personnality and a signature sound, 2 things most effect pedals lack these days.If you're looking for perfect control this unit isn't for you.Otherwise you will love how it gargles when it doesn't understand what you send it or how it glides like a defective Moog when you hold notes too long.

Pedals have personality?
Members Jazz Ad Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 Good ones do. Personality and attitude.

Members J. Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 Is the Digitech X-Series Bass Synth available in Australia? That pedal has an octave setting that works pretty darn well. It also has a bunch of other wacky tones too.

Members Benjamin Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 I like my gargling but slightly metallic Boss OC-2. Wish I could enhance the gargling, any suggestions? That MicroPOG looks the shiznit for octave up. I might need that depending on the song if my new band stays 3 piece. Edit: Forgot to mention I seriously disliked the MXR, with a passion. I miss my Digitech Bass Whammy
Members Crescent Seven Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 The MXR Bass Octave couldn't track Ricki Lake at a BBQ Cookoff.

Members Optimus Prime Posted August 12, 2007 Members Posted August 12, 2007 The only octave pedal I've ever really played with was the Boss OC-3. I liked it.
