Awesome, it came with all the original goodies. And some straplocks too! :thu:

Yeah I know the bridge pickup is ramped all the way up. I still need to setup this beaut. Just letting it warm up a lil bit.

I'll take some pics of the both of my SB's later!

BTW, this thing is almost mint. Seriously I can't find a scratch. The only things with it are a missing screw on the truss rod cover and the extra strap button. Apparently a lefty used it before...pssh!

When I first saw the case, I was wondering if it was brand new. Wow! Looks cool!
:thu:

Yeah it looks almost new. Seriously! I think its better condition than my 2007 SB!!!!

Its lighter too! :)

Yup, its an awesome bass.

Its my second one. My other one is the first one made this year in the Aria custom shop. There's about 20 years in the difference between them.

Me so happy ^_^

That is awesome-those early 80's SB's are some of the best mass-produced instruments ever, IMHO.

Play it in good heath!
:thu:

Actually its not an early 80's. Its post-matsumoku made between '86-88. No serial number :(

Now...on to the sound.....

I need to change my pants

Seriously this thing is a beast!! The output is unreal. It can go from shaking the house bass to pure 80's style slap sound! and lots in between.

I opened the back cover to check the batteries.....

There's none!!

I think I'm in love. This thing has more output than the '07 and that uses 18V of power!

I just need to give the action a bit of a tweak and get some switch cleaner, the tone pot is a bit dirty. :)

As requested, a family photo. Well the SB family. :)

Now, the differences between them.

Late 80's SB Elite II vs. 2007 SB 1000CB

The Elite II has a slightly wider neck at the headstock end with a bit more meat behind it, as you go up the neck it flattens out to a more pronounced "D" shaped neck. The 1000CB is more akin to a Jazz bass in neck depth, the shape continues all along the neck.

The Elite II has a lovely rosewood board with a nice grain to it, whereas the CB has an ebony board. The Elite has different electronics but the same pickups, albeit two of them. I think the Elite is higher output than the CB and it also weighs less than the CB. Because of the lack of batteries and circuit possibly?

Both are awesome basses, each with their own distinct sound but similar enough that you would know they are from the same company.
