Members been_effected Posted August 17, 2007 Members Posted August 17, 2007 Wow So it's 2:21am and I just got home from my band's first gig. I think I now understand why musicians get big ego's. We "apparently" kicked some serious ass, and blew all the other acts including the main act off the stage (I'm just going on the general opinions I got thrown at me). So much so that there was a fairly substantial standing crowd for us, which then dispersed when all the other bands came on...HA! I'm takin it with a grain of salt. but all that crap aside, it was a blast. Had a minor technical issue with my guitar'd (singer kicked his power supply out of the wall accidentally) so we had to stop and fix that, but the crowd was cool with it. Ended up using the venue's backline (ampeg 8x10 fridge) and I gotta admit while it didn't seem much louder than my 4x10, when I put into perspective the sheer size of the room, it would be killing rodents at 100 yards. So I like, but I don't think I'll buy one, just too damn big and a pain in the arse to get around. Anyway /rant. I'm still pretty drunk so excuse any typing errors or rambling Effected Out. PS. Pics to come...
Members bassred Posted August 17, 2007 Members Posted August 17, 2007 Gotta love gigs. I used to get such a high when I played, I'd be pumped up like you wouldn't believe.... I had a guy try to pick a fightafter a show and I just told him 'I've got o much adrenaline in my system right now, I'm fairly certain you don't want to {censored} with me......' He didn't believe me, so I had to show him.... I didn't feel any pain until the next day, my knuckles where pretty screwed... I hate fighting, but the energy from the gig had me feeling pretty invinsible. Glad you had a good time!! It only gets better (although the high gets less intense...)
Members guitargod0dmw Posted August 17, 2007 Members Posted August 17, 2007 Sweet! Sounds like a great time!!! Get those pics up...

It only gets better (although the high gets less intense...) that so sounds like me last night...I was so pumped for a few hours before the gig and then hours afterwards...but I remember at 1am we were still out drinking and all of a sudden it wore off, all of us felt that way at the same time, my guitar'd and singer all looked at each other at the same time and went "man we're tired" But yeah, totally know the invincible feeling...maybe now I understand why musicians seem to start doing drugs to chase the high, its the best feeling... Oh, and I finally NOW appreciate why people don't need kilowatt amps...I really well and truly now appreciate the role of a PA in helping project your sound
Members Crescent Seven Posted August 18, 2007 Members Posted August 18, 2007 Gigs are incredible when they go well, but they're the low point of the week if they don't. We had one of those on Saturday, not exactly a triumphant showing from Myth Lab. You take the bad with the good, because the bad gigs make you have more good ones if you go about it right. Congrats on getting your band on stage, that can be alot more work than people think. Make sure you follow up strong musically on your next few shows or it can get frustrating. Meaning that even though you have crossed an important bridge, and people liked your {censored}, keep working really hard, it will continue to pay off. If you start to slack even a little bit, it will show at this point in the game. My first gig ever was in February and I've learned more about being in a band in the last 7 months than I ever thought possible...C7
Members been_effected Posted August 19, 2007 Author Members Posted August 19, 2007 I think I've learned more from one gig than I have from all the practices and chats with other musicians Some of the best photos from the night you can find here, but theres stacks more to come from the girl who had stage access. Theres also a that has 3 minutes from PSI taken by a friend of mine. Sound isn't great and it doesn't have the outro (my favourite part ) but still, I feel the mood haha EDIT: Another vid popped up. Song's called
Members badmotor Posted August 19, 2007 Members Posted August 19, 2007 Good work. You guys are gonna sound huge once you and the drummers kick lock-in a bit more. But plenty of live experience helps that. Play, and play more
Members ezstep Posted August 19, 2007 Members Posted August 19, 2007 Dude! You drummer is an Iranian woman??? Cool Now you see why us old farts never quite give it up. There's nothing quite like the natural high of playing live. We are into our third weekend of a 13-week-in-a-row phase, and it only gets better and better. Congrats.
