Members rummy Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 I've been lucky so far. All the surrounding cities like Elgin, Crystal Lake, etc are looking real bad!

Members bassman1956 Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 Sirens went off at the lab. We just got back up from being in the shelters for about 45 minutes.
Members Thunderbroom Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 I left work about 15 minutes agoe and am home with the family so we can face Armageddon together.
Members T. Alan Smith Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 We just got nailed with 80+mph winds and HEAVY rain. Came out of nowhere too. Sheesh!
Members y-o-y Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 I left work about 15 minutes agoe and am home with the family so we can face Armageddon together. Geez, you make it sounds like you are in London in November 1940
Members rummy Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 Wish me luck. I'm about to take my commute home from Glenview to W. Dundee; straight through the storm.
Members Thunderbroom Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 Wish me luck. I'm about to take my commute home from Glenview to W. Dundee; straight through the storm. You're travelling by boat, right?
Members Svi Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 I can't think of a day in the past few weeks that it hasn't rained. This is insane. I couldn't see out the balcony window a while ago-it looked like a hurricane was coming through. I talked to Andy, he's stuck downtown on the Metra-trains aren't going anywhere because of tornado sightings.
Members One Bad Monkey Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 We're enjoying your torrential storm right now. THe lights have flickered a couple of times, but nothing major yet.
Members sludgebass69 Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 Here comes round 2... Yup, looks like there's a line all the way to Des Moines and it's all headed right at us......
Moderators Kindness Posted August 23, 2007 Moderators Posted August 23, 2007 Sean and I got caught in it driving home this afternoon. Trees down everywhere. I had to go the wrong way down several one way streets to make it home. It was crazy. Power out all around. Cables and trees lying in the street. Here comes round two. Best part was watching some dude get thrown to the ground while riding his bike. That's some real wind to knock a man over like that.
Members rummy Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Yeah. It took 2 hours from Glenview to Schaumburg. Pulled over at Wendy's for a quick snack, and here I am at home, 3 1/2 hours after I left work. The trees on the road weren't too bad, but the dead traffic lights really {censored}ed me up.
Members someotherguy Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Elgin got hit twice. I saw little damage on the NW side by work and my short commute. The worst might have hit the south part and South Elgin. I heard around that Schaumburg & Wheaton were hit bad.
Members bassman1956 Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Man, listening to you guys about driving home, and seeing the news, I made the right choice! Was going to head to Geneva for a workout before going home. But when I got to Kirk Road, it was bumper-to-bumper headed north. For the 2 or so miles I could see, at the least. So I turned south and headed home.
Members L-1329 Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 I just had a REAL up close and personal look at all that weather. Bad stuff! some of the largest area masses of cells I've seen in years. Looked like a huge black wall coming in towards Chicago from the east. The trailing line of storms all packed into one huge, major area of big time thunderstorms and wicked bad weather. I'll be glad when this country-wide mass of uber-hot air will finally move out. The killer heat and so much humidity just keeps kicking these storms up every day. Getting tired of dancing around them.
Members rummy Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Hope you didn't have to fly today.

Members bassman1956 Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 And it looks like we're in for a few small spells followed by some serious overnighters...
Members rummy Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 You're nuts! The size of this man's balls...
Moderators Kindness Posted August 24, 2007 Moderators Posted August 24, 2007 I just want my power back. I've played as much double bass as I can for one night and reading by candlelight is getting tiresome. Thank god I can post from my bberry.
Members rummy Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Wow, still? That sucks! I'm watching the NBC news right now. It's scary what's happened today.

Riding the bus home, we saw several trees that had been completely uprooted.
