Members Noise... Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 I haven't seen a thread on this since I started frequenting the HCBF, so I figured I'd go ahead and post it. What do you guys use pick-wise for your basses?
Members mlwarriner Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 dunlop tortex 73's (i think. they're the yellow ones). i scuff up both sides of 'em with a razor blade before using though.
Members Bluescout Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Nothing in particular. When I'm in the music store, I'll pick up a few of those bigger picks that feel stiff enough.
Members Captain Fathead Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 I was given a pack of fender heavy picks a while back. Still working through them.
Members kingofthestring Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 i dont use picks. u get a better tone with your fingers mang
Members Roguetitan Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Medium and Heavy celluoid picks not brand spesific being that most brands of celluoid picks are manufactured by the same company.
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 I use .88 Tortex on guitar and if I ever play bass with a pick, I just use the Dunlops.
Members zachoff Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Dunlop Nylon - Thickness varies depending on the song.
Moderators ThudMaker Posted August 27, 2007 Moderators Posted August 27, 2007 Right here Cool Picks 1.00 Heavy or the "Ultra Cool" Link to Elderly
Members FloydianAnimal Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 When I use a pick, it's usually the 2 mm black dunlop picks or the green tortex dunlop picks...
Members Uncle Buck Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 In a pinch I've used those plastic bread bag things. Other than that I use Fender heavy.
Members jmb374 Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Bass: Dunlop Tortex Purple (only very rarely though)Guitar: Dunlop Tortex Orange or Green. I don't know the thickness, the writing is all rubbed off.
Members boogiebassbill Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 I've used a small piece of stiff leather before. duplicates finger tone more
Members Michael W.K. Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 dunlop yellow green or blues and fender heavy
Members collinwho Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Why would I want to duplicate finger tone with a pick? If I want finger tone, I use my fingers. When I want a pick tone, I use these Dunlop Gator Grip - purple - .96mm
Members lyricpoet Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 Fender extra heavy (and extra large) Also a friend of mine down in Bellows Falls makes stuff out of bone, antlers, (legal) scrimshaw and tusks. Using the Dunlop as a template, he increased it 20% and made me one out of cow bone which is 1.14mm at the tip and 1.42mm on the body. Indistructible and helps me play very aggressively, but the Fenders are as good for that.
Moderators ThudMaker Posted August 27, 2007 Moderators Posted August 27, 2007 Why would I want to duplicate finger tone with a pick? If I want finger tone, I use my fingers. Good question. The only time I can think of doing that is if a guitard would have to play bass and he can't play finger style. A fresh, felt pick will duplicate the tone of fingers for that person.
