Swimmer Missing is playing yet another great Thax Douglas show this Saturday night at 9pm at the South Union Arts building:

1352 S. UNION in Chicago

(just 2 blocks south of Roosevelt Rd)

http://www.southunionarts.com/

We are the first band of the night. We are playing 6 songs. We will be on and off the stage in ~25 minutes. Don't be late. This is the first performance of ours in the last year and a half. No promises on when we will strike next.

Most importantly, you will get to hear poems from the great Thax Douglas. They will sound something like this only weirder:

SWIMMER MISSING (Thom of Kindness)

Being of sound mind and body, Swimmer Missing gives only a major question mark on where the true melloncollie derives from such a pop oriented singer/songwriter. Thom makes leaps and bounds in his introspective dramatic romp through uncharted waters of the human psy-key. Most notable is the distinct commitment to true unwavering melodic hooks and grim but harmonic lyrics that create a ocean of itself to swim cautiously.

Hey, have a good time. Why has it been 1.5 years since the last gig?

and. will the poet be during your set, or after?

Thax will most likely be reading poetry as the stage introduction for each band. It is what he has been doing for the last 20+ years. He used to tour with bands doing this, now he just reads for every act that plays in town. Everyone from me and my goofball friends to Wilco, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. He is an icon, but not the kind you want to get too close to.

If I'm in the area, I'll definitely try to come. Is this an outdoor venue?

Indoor. It is the only church to have survived the Chicago fire. It is no longer a church, it has recently been converted to an art performance space. :thu:

Parking is strange. It should be okay, but it is right next to the new University Village/Maxwell St. developments so it can get crowded, but there is a parking garage just a block away.

You can take the train in and ride the Halted bus down to 13th or 14th streets. If you took an early train, I'd pick you up from the station.

Hopefully you can swing by on Monday and pick up your amp. I believe it will be completed.

My looper will be here Monday as well. I've got to wait until it's delivered before heading to the city but will keep you posted.

It's sometimes hard to be friends with someone that tried to kill you.

Thanks to rummy and BroM for making it out tonight. I'll have to post a picture or two later. :)

Pics for those interested. Sorry there were are no pics of the Neon Jesus, the water stain in the image of a gunman holding an Uzi or the various naked people on crucifixes. That was one hell of a cool venue.

I realized after seeing the pictures that I probably spent most of the night looking at the fingerboard or with my eyes closed. Every time I tried to look into the seats, the lights burned my retinas. :)

I didn't catch you looking down on the fretboard too much. You seemed focused on your music. I thought you guys sounded very good. I think the room made your bass sound extra boingy, and acoustic-y. Whatever that means.

The pictures came out pretty good! Too bad they didn't get any of the other shots like you said.
