Members Optimus Prime Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 Why in the {censored} is this well over $2000?
Members FreestyleIntruder Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 1. Because there are smegheads out there who will pay that much for it 2. Because $2000 AUS is, what, about 50 pence?
Members Optimus Prime Posted September 7, 2007 Author Members Posted September 7, 2007 I found one for $1899. But damn who would pay that much for an acoustic bass?

Why would anyone pay $1200 for a U.S. Fender? Different strokes for different folks. That said, Ovations usually have excellent onboard electronics and their deep-bowl back acoustic guitars have a very deep and rich bass response, which lends itself well to an ABG. Dustin

Dustin American Fenders are like $950 around here.
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 American Fenders are like $950 around here. For a standard, yes, but there's always the deluxe models, which some people buy - and I've found some of the Deluxe models to be on par with Mexi Fenders, sadly enough.

I love my new American standard, which is sadly in pieces right now.
Moderators isaac42 Posted September 7, 2007 Moderators Posted September 7, 2007 I say, if it has enough volume to be heard under two acoustic guitars, then it's worth what theyRe asking.
Members Death Hands Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 I say, if it has enough volume to be heard under two acoustic guitars, then it's worth what theyRe asking. And, from what I've seen, heard, and read, they're fairly good ABGs. Able to be heard decently in an acoustic setting.
Members Optimus Prime Posted September 7, 2007 Author Members Posted September 7, 2007 The only way I'll ever buy one of these is if I have every bass I could possibly want, which is actually a abnormally short list, and I had a ridiculous amount of money.
Members hasbeen Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 hmmm....I'm considering paying $3800 for an ABG. BTW...those Ovations are made by hand ....not on an assembly line.

Members BigPigPeaches Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 FWIW, the only ABG I have ever heard that can stand up to two acoustic guitars on its own was an Ernie Ball Earthwood. Good luck finding one of those for less than 3K. Fortunately, I have a friend who has one. Now I just need to wait for him to die. (Checks watch) Yep, just waitin.
Members hasbeen Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 $3800 ... why? like anything other instrument: quality of construction, tone and playability. It's a Halfling bass. You gotta hear this thing.

Members hasbeen Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 http://www.ribbeckehalfling.com/basses.htmlThey look cool. Which one do you want? the 4 string...."Bobby Vega". I work a lot with Bobby. You should hear him play this thing. He worked up some chord solos for it. I do a lot of "solo" bass work and this would fit into my arsenal very well. The only one of these basses I've heard it the steel string. I haven't heard the nylon string yet.

Members Perfessor Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 I'm not sure they have full sized necks or do they? I thought it was 32" or something.

Moderators isaac42 Posted September 8, 2007 Moderators Posted September 8, 2007 The Ovation, or the Michael Kelly? The Ovation is 34" scale.
Members guidecritter Posted November 25, 2007 Members Posted November 25, 2007 I paid $900 for a used Fretless b778. Sweet sounding super smooth playin'axe. Can be heard with acoustics. 'especially when pluged into my roland cube.
Moderators isaac42 Posted November 25, 2007 Moderators Posted November 25, 2007 Almost anything can be heard with acoustics, once you plug it in.
